I've not had much success in the past trying to shoot Snow Buntings. These flighty birds usually swoop in and out in large flocks, across snow covered rural roads and farmer's fields. The slightest movement or noise tends to set them off in unison. Presently a friend and fellow bird photographer found this large flock at a farmer's yard attracted by an exposed pile of cattle feed. Three of us spent several hours taking shots as the Buntings flew in and out, scared off repeatedly by slight movement and/or simply the clicks of our cameras. I went back the next day and took some more shots. I'll be posting some of the shots over the next few days.
In the above photo, several of the Buntings can be seen gorging themselves at the top of the pile of feed.
