Robin's Life

On June 2008, a couple of American robin chose our balcony as their new home. Surprisingly, it was the second time in 4 years that American robins build a nest on our balcony.

I took it as a gift and a privilege to witness the beginning of a new life for those little birds. With all the respect I could demonstrate for those little guys, I took the opportunity to photography the progression of the bird’s evolution from eggs to chicks to young birds.

Hidden behind a large curtain, I handled my camera through an opening to photography them. By doing so, I avoided putting stress on the birds. I would say that the birds accepted my presence rather well and at the end we were very good friends!

I consider myself lucky to have captured so many scenes that represent the parental behaviours of the American robin. The chance I had to observe the evolution starting from birth and the caring of the parents for their chicks brought me even more respect for the birds. I learned a lot about their way to behave as parents, to communicate between them and to take care of their offspring.

I hope that these photos will reflect all the pleasure I had to watch them progress day by day.

Enjoy the gallery and feel free to send me your comments, it will be well appreciated.

Also, the photos have been placed in a chronological order to show the progression of the
story (from left to right for each row and from top to bottom).
