Swimming at Robin's Nest

Swimming in "Mister Masters Tidal Pool" (Waimanalo, Oahu, Jan. 2006)
Each time we visit Oahu, a swim in front of Robin's Nest belongs to our routine. We discussed many times the deteriorating condition of the Guest House (well, Boat House in reality) and I though that it would be of interest to post a new gallery with images showing the difference between 2002 and 2006. I am sure that I speak in the name of all true Friends of Magnum: Do not trespass and do not try to enter the Boat House. You will only cause more damage and achieve nothing. The interior of "Magnum's home" never existed here, it was filmed in a studio set.

In this shoot I took my gear into the water, protected in a marine bag of course, and I tried to give you a "swimmer's perspective" of the Estate. One surprising fact about the tidal pool is how shallow it is! The water is often merely knee deep. We had problems not to hit the ground while swimming. I wonder if over the years the waves moved that much more sand into the pool? In the show we often see Magnum swimming rounds in the pool. It must have been much deeper back than!

Dear WR: I appreciate the enthusiasm, but I am sure that the Smithsonian will surely not be interested in a house, only because a TV series was made there over 30 years ago. Its just a show, one of many TV shows, and new ones are appearing every season. As far I understand the estate's price is in continuous decline from its beginning asking price. I think that its still asking too much. This location is not a prime value on Oahu. One of the appraisal companies Zillow provides a detailed analysis: http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/41-505-Kalanianaole-Hwy-Waimanalo-HI-96795/625637_zpid/ Lastly: If someone will purchase it, surely not to let strangers walk through it, and make oh-ah on every lawn. The beach is and will be as far as the visitors will go, because... its the law on Hawaii. The new owner will have the means and desire to have privacy.

For those who do not know; the Anderson Estate (Robin's Nest) has been on the open market for more than a year. I saw a web page (Mar.7th, 2015) listing the current asking price at 7.5 million. I sent a message to the realtor suggesting that they contact The Smithsonian Institution to see if they would be interested. If that were to happen, Robin's Nest would get the "FACE LIFT" that it so badly needs; AND with a little luck be opened to the public.

Thanks for the great pictures of this hidden gem.. Swam there in the tidal pool several times in 2011, and look forward to it in just a 10 days... I love hidden spots like this. Love that its mostly locals, and not "plastic Hawaii"

Thank you for sharing this fantastic info and wonderful pics! You made it easy for me to locate 'Mister Master's Tidal Pool' on my honeymoon to Hawaii back in May 2010. A dip and swim there was truely one of the highlights of our honeymoon! It was beautiful! Wish I was going back for Christmas 2011... I would buy you a Coops!

Thanks for sharing the recent photos of the Anderson Estate. I have really noticed some major changes since my visit to the estate back in 2004. These photos are a lot more revealing from all of the others. I noticed some of the foilage was'nt as thick as when I was there. Great photos, thanks! I was at Robin's Nest in Oct and it pretty much looks the same from when you were there last. The one difference I noticed is that the sand by the wall, where you sit, is much lower so when you sit on the wall your feet dangle. It very much seemed very similar to when the show was shot, which is a good thing. Love the perspective from the water but my fav shot is pic 2320. The lighting and colour you got is amazing!

The memories are present thanks to dvds but it' s always a great pleasure ,after 2002 work too,living with the eyes these splendid places with the cast somewhere in guest or main house or tennis courts place,duck into.Thanks a lot for the great work!!

hi , my family and I will be travelling to Hawaii in september/october this year. we are all fans of the show and would like to know what you would recommend we do for some magnum sight seeing while we are there. can we hire a 308gts while on the island? hi, I was just wondering how much it would cost to purchase Mrs Anderson's place today if she was to sell it.I have always loved the show.I still watch it everyday.alot of great memories. hope they make the movie with original cast.wont wast the money if they dont.thanks
