Magnum P.I. Estate -- Zeus, Apollo: Patrol !

Visiting "Robins Nest" in Waimanalo, 30 Sep. and 2 Oct. 2002.
Safest way to walk to the Estate is at low tide. Unfortunately in October 2002 low tide was in the evening, thus the images of the estate's waterfront were made in low light. They lack the vibrancy provided by sunlight.

1. Drive to Waimanalo.
The estate is located on the Kalaniana'ole Highway (Road 72) in Waimanalo, HI 96795. This will always be a special address for all aficionados of Magnum P.I. To get there from Honolulu just drive counterclockwise along the shoreline. Highway H1 becomes eventually the Road 72. Behind Koko Head and Koko Crater, the road leads uphill across Makapu'u Head. From there opens up a magnificent view of Waimanalo Bay (images 23-02..23-04.) We saw this vicinity so often in Magnum episodes...

2. Island Hoppers (in real life: Makai Research Pier)
Pier is located opposite of the Manana and Kaohikaipu Islands. It's the first stop.

3. Finding Robin's Nest. (in real life: till 2014 Anderson Estate, now the estate has a new owner)
The Estate an be easily recognized by the solitary tree on the opposite side of the road (image 23-10.) You may stop and walk along the wall, but the view of the grounds is protected by screens and dense foliage.

4. Walk along Mr. Masters Tidal Pool.
Three houses further is a public beach with a parking lot. From there you may walk along the beach to the Estate. Observe the tides! You must walk through water in front of sea walls. You might find yourself trapped by swells pounding against the walls! If in doubt: don't walk (image 20-36).

I hope that this guide will help you in finding Robin's Nest. Time, and unfortunately also as it seems some visitors, have a negative impact on the condition of the Estate. Compare these images to the Estate in Jan. 2006 .

We all are sad, some are angry. But before jumping to conclusions, please read the as always excellent explanations from Rick Romer, why this has happened. I was not aware of the intense corrosiveness of the salt air! I guess, a next trip to this beach is now due, to see how it looks these days and in the future.

Watching an episode of Hawaii Five-O...original air date 11/05/69 entitled "Sweet Terror."
Approximately the last 15 minutes is filmed on Robin's Nest from McGarrett driving up the
long beautiful entrance to the double entry front doors to even the potting shed and including
where a helicopter landed...the same as in many Magnum P.I. episodes. They showed just
about the entire estate on this episode. What beautiful grounds they were in 1969 and still from
1980-1988!

Just arrived home to Ireland after an amazing few weeks in Oahu, always wanted to visit Hawaii after watching the 70s tv series Hawaii Five-0 as a child, this November for my 50th birthday I made it happen. I've been a life-long Tom Selleck fan so there was no way I was leaving Hawaii without a visit to 'Roben's Nest'. Although the estate looks run down it was such a thrill to walk the beach and get a look through the trees at the main house. It really is a shame that there are no tours of the estate allowed. Having said that, it was lovely just to be there.

I think Ms Anderson is probably not in the best financial shape or she doesn't care. I read where she doesn't even live there anymore, her nephew does. Who knows? That would expalin the neglected condition of the estate. W/the fake economic collapse tourism has taken a nose-dive straight down and hawaii has suffered greatly because of it.

Hawaii Five O Season 12 Disc Five the final episode “Woe to Wo Fat”. The one was filmed at Robins Nest in the house as well as outside the house. You will see more of Robins House in this one episode than in all the others plus Magnum itself. If you can rent season 12 you won’t be disappointed.

thanks for the note! Your case shows how local a life on these Islands can be! Indeed, spend a day to travel around Oahu, it is so different.

As to poor people and old cars: This is only natural, and we personally do not judge anyone by material possessions. Many people on these Islands have rich existences through the nature and the life style. But what we do not accept is the trash and debris left lying around the houses. We also noticed this on many places and wondered: Why would someone live on a self made trash dump? Why not to remove it, and plant some taro and tea and crotons, to make it look pretty? During my trip to Samoa I have seen people having literally only what they wore, fish hooks and their Fale's, but they mostly kept them in a perfect clean condition, with stones lined up and small plants marking walkways. It was exotic and fascinating.

I live on Maui and would so love to go see Robin's nest. I have never even been to Oahu (except to the airport back in '86 on a stopover to Maui). I was born in '76 and grew up on the mainland watching Magnum PI. After my dad and I took a magical trip to Maui in '86, watching Magnum became even more special to me because it was a way to re-experience the magic of being in Hawaii. Now that it's been off the air for several decades, I find myself watching the episodes on DVD to experience that place and time, which was a much more innocent time. I feel so grateful to have been a kid during the '80s: watching Magnum P.I....seeing Footloose at the theater when I was 8 yrs old...listening to Duran Duran and Thompson Twins. Good memories.

Now I live on Maui and I have a kayak similar to Magnum's surfski. It goes very fast and I zoom all around the channels here. I am often very tempted to push out to sea and head over to Oahu and land right at the tide pool at Robin's Nest in Waimanalo. Except Oahu is about 80 miles away and it would take me a couple days and a lot of muscle to get there in my kayak! Oh well...someday I will get over to Oahu and see Robin's Nest. BTW, I find it SO sad that it's in such a state of disrepair. But you know, here's the thing. All over these islands, there are homes in disrepair, with old cars in the front lawn, and debris all over. You think to yourself, "Gosh, someone really poor must live there." Then you find out that a very prosperous person or family lives there! It is very common here in Hawaii for people to live in [what on the mainland would be considered] disrepair and "squalor". It's maybe even part of the culture. People are just too busy enjoying the sun and surf to really pay attention to maintenance and making things look spotless. Just my two cents. Still, Robin's Nest is different. That house and property is really special and I believe the owner is really doing a disservice to herself, her investment, and the memory of the show...by not maintaining the home properly.

Well, we are back from Oahu and I have to say my husband I had a great time. The weather was mostly sunny and warm and we finally got to see the tidal pool. It wasn't exactly as it was in the Magnum PI series (it was really shallow) but still beautiful. We arrived about an hour before low tide so we had lots of time to take pictures and some video. The house (what you can see of it) is really rundown with sheets hanging and it's the same with the boathouse. We spent some time at Waimanalo beach park and had some lunch at one of the local restaurants. All in all, a day we won't forget. By the way, on the Magnum Mania site they have announced the new Jesse Stone movie, Benefit of the Doubt, which will air May 20th at 8:00 pm.

these days you can simply use something like "maps" on Google, Yahoo or Mapquest. I entered the parking lot in Waimanalo as destination (41-543-41-575 Kalanianaole Hwy, Waimanalo, HI 96795) and Kalakaua Av without any house number as the origin. Maps said 17.0 mi, 28 mins. I would rather assume 45min though: It is busy there on the roads these days.

At low tide its only a five minute walk and I would say get there as the tide is going out not at the high low tide mark. If low tide is at 1030am get there at 9:45 or 10 to walk in. Yes I got tons of pictures at the tidal pool as well as the dogs. When we there on Dec 25th the tide was very very low but as it goes up you could be face waist deep water sometimes higher so check the tidal charts and pick a perfect day. Dec 24th 2011 was my 9th trip to Hawaii and it will not be my last until I kick the bucket.

My friends and I got back Jan 5th and just crazy busy. The tidal pool was not dredged as mentioned before. I would say check with your hotel to see if they will do up a picnic basket to take to Robins Nest. We did this for my friends wife and she was on cloud nine .. she loved it. If they don't then get some subway but have a picnic on the beach it was fantastic. While we were there were three dogs on the property two black and white pugs of some sort which made us comment "the Lads the Lads" and a retriever who got some of our ham from our picnic.

Most enjoyable pictures of Hawaii and the site of the Magnum PI series, Magnum PI as was Hawaii 5-0 were my two favorite series on TV, having lived in Honolulu during most of the 1990's I really enjoyed seeing these places again ! During the late 1980's I seen Tom Selleck's home which was located then on a private street in the Diamond Head area, took a few pictures of his home, and walking back to Waikiki to my hotel I ran into Tom Selleck, I remember passing him and saying "hows it going ?" And he said to me just great ! Loved Hawaii and especially Honolulu, even ran into the actor Jim Nabors twice while walking in the Diamond Head area !

I was there today. I arrived about 2-3 hours before low tide and there wasLOTof sand to walk on. I parked in the parking lot of the public park that's about 2-3houses down from "Robin's Nest."

The place has trips hanging from one of the balcony roofs, and what looks like plywood over a window. Looks liken exterior paint job is in progress.

Took a swim in the tide poolandbeyond - it was nice bt slightly cool given it's almost Christmas.

More ofthenouseis visible while standing in the todoepool halfway between the beach and the titepool wall.

Muchodfthehouse remains hidden as indicted inthephotos already posted, and I was respectful of all the signs, the fences etc.

Still, it is a beautiful spot of creation and worth experiencing Whetherone is a magnum fan or not; I am.

I want to thank everyone who has posted photos and the actual street address which my usually crappy Garmin DID have in its address database- I drove right to it.

Thanks for the tip saying how we are able to get to the estate from the rear using the beach access and to watch for the tides! Just came from there yesterday, made sure to wear shorts for the walk thru the tide, and made if as far as the guest house! The tide was too deep to go further but from what I see posted it was difficult to see much else anyway because of overgrowth. I managed to get a seashell and a nice looking little rock I can use as a paper weight from my desk from the tidal pool. All was going well until Higgins had the lads chase me out of the tidal pool! Thanks again for your photos and tips!

I've been a Magnum fan since the series was on each week. We just returned from a long stay on Oahu (October 2010) ... refurbishing a condo. One day my wife suggested we try and find the estate because I had wanted to find the location for years. We first visited the "beach park" (down a couple doors),... but it was Saturday and the locals were having a fishing tournament...not the day to crash the local activities to access the beach. Instead, we went back a week later (mid-week) and it was much less congested.... a few locals were hanging out….they were very, very nice. Sooooo, we brought out the camera and took pictures, and we even snorkeled in the tidal pool. We got a number of great shots, but most pics were of the tidal pool and surrounding area. It was very difficult to see ANY of the estate. The surrounding vegetation and overgrowth is really prohibitive…. probably by design. (Well… I can probably understand… after 25 years of people climbing over your walls and peering into your windows.) That said, it was pretty sad. The "estate" was really in bad shape. Some windows boarded up, tarps pulled over some portions of the roof, etc. Hard to believe this was "The Estate" that we all know and love from the series. BUT... don't let me discourage anyone from visiting. It IS hallowed ground for us fans...and you can always take a picture in the tidal pool for long lasting memories! Just check out the tides on the local website and go close to low tide…. and even then be prepared to “wade” a little. It’s no big deal and worth the trek……. I’ll never forget it and have the pictures to re-live the adventure.

Don Bellisario is too successful with NCIS for so many years already to look back at Magnum too much. The new cast is indeed uniquely good, and several of his kids/cousins are now also in this show, earning their appearances in the movie making industry. Such is passage of time! Foremost lets mention David Bellisario, who seem to be an excellent producer, reaching back into Magnum's times.

Fascinating was to see Tom Selleck in "Las Vegas" inviting both Roger Mosley and Larry Manetti to an episode, that would have been indeed a splendid occasion for John Hillerman to make a brief, if even only 2-3 minutes appearance, but it was not so. You are probably right in the assumption that our Higgins will not return anymore...

Yes I did indeed see the picture of John. I am very happy he doing well but to expect him to come out of retirement is just hoping for too much. I like to remember him as he was for eight seasons of our fav show. I am afraid that when or if Magnum is re-done it will be done with the original cast as that is the way Universal seems to want it regardless of what you and I feel about. It does pain me to see reality but that's it.
Anyways back to my plug. My friends and I are are going to be in Hawaii for Christmas and New Years Day 2011/2012. We will be staying at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani which we love. If anyone reading this is thinking about a trip to Hawaii this would be the perfect time. We could all meet for dinners plan a day trip the Estate and in short just enjoy Hawaii. Think about my friends as you have lots of time to plan it.

As much as we all would love to see the original gang back together I can't seeing it happen. When Tom was doing Vegas and the other two showed up I think that was it for a reuin. Hillerman has retired and there is no word on how he is or what he looks like but I dare say we should remember his as he was as Higgens.
I really wish Mrs Anderson would open up her property but until (God forbid) she passes away I don't think she will open her property up as she does not need the money. After she is gone depending who gets the property they may or may not see the possiblity of making money with Magnum PI Fan tours.

aloha- being born and raise in my home state honolulu,hawaii and seing magnum p.i. fliming in the 80's for 8 years in honolulu and get to see the cast members in person fliming all the time is nice thing for me get to see for 8 years back home in honolulu. now that magnum p.i. was honor at 2009 tvland awards and seing oringal cast members still look the same when all 4 of them had started the show for 8 years in hawaii. and t.c. is balled and he is fat. but higgins did not make a apperence w/ her fellow magnum p.i. cast members at all. i do want to see the cast flim another magnum p.i. movie together at robin master estate once again. my boyfriend mike he want me to show him where robin master estate is at and where the flim studio is at and where king kam club is at and where let tanaka office is at. and seeing t.c. island hoppers helcopter and the van going by in honolulu all the time that was fun and seeing the magnum ferrie driving in honolulu that was fun too.it would be nice if mris. anderson that really own robin master estate would open up that estate and make the touriest pay their way to get a close look where magnum guest house and the main house where higgins was living at during the 8 years of magnum p.i. mrs anderson would make a tone of hawaiian money if she did open her estate up to hawaii touriest and all of the hawaiian money that mrs anderson make will go to hawaii taxes.

I still enjoy 1 or 2 episodes a day. The DVDs are almost "well-thumbed" for the times I watched them! I grew up with Magnum P.I. series and now that I'm 33yo I understand I newer stopped to be a teenager dreaming and rooting for Thomas!

Thank you againg for your pictures.... these made me having a look to the Robin's nest as I was there!
And anyway the Guest House condition is really sad.... :-(

The current owner is just not into up keep and that could be because of a lack on money or lack of interest or both. As my Father got older he did not care that his house was almost falling down around his ears. Now that he is gone my Brother and I are spending lots to bring the house up.
Mrs Anderson could be in the same condition of just not caring. Even as far back as Hawaii Five O they stopped filming there because the place was in such a sad state of decay and falling plaster. They use to film in the house as in early Five O episodes. I dare say it would cost lots to bring everything up to code and she is just not willing to do it. As I have said before she could allow limited Fan access for a price for a portion of the year. She would benefit as would the State but no one seems to be interested in making the contact with her or the State. Personally I would pay $50 bucks for 30 minutes access to the grounds. I say $50 and would pay more if she wanted it.
Thomas are ya heading back soon? My friends and I are going to be there Christmas 2011 and New years. If anyone else is thinking of going perhaps consider these dates and we could meet at Robins Nest for a day get together.

Hi im a great magnum fan ive all the dvds and enjoy them throughly.Ithink tom selleck is good looking.I find Paper Moon from season 8 very funny where Thomas blows Higgins wooden bridge up. Id love to go to robins nest one day.Apprantly fans i dont know if you know this,that Tom Selleck doesnt like watching the magnum series,still great.

I was here yesterday, (March 26th, 2009.) Everything still looks pretty much like your pictures. The estate appears to be in need of some work, which is depressing to see. Based on the information that has been posted here, it was easy to find. I went in at low tide early in the morning and had dry feet all the way.

My husband and I saw Jesse Stone Thin Ice, last night, and as usual, Tom was brilliant. However, it was depressing at the end, because he is suspended without pay from his job as sheriff of Paradise Falls. Looking forward to the next installment and the Magnum movie, with Tom in it!!!

BTW, please say a prayer for my beautiful loving dog who passed on August 27th. It was a very sad time for me. I had named HER Magnum because of my love for the show and all the shows great and inspirational qualities for all. Thomas Magnum was the ultimate friend and the ultimate person to me and he created a sense of well being. Truly a hero.

The estate, and T.C.'s chopper were used in an episode of "Vegas" also. Rob't. Urich's -Tanna is kidnapped,drugged, etcEven the paint scheme on the chopper was the same.

After revisiting this website over and over again,as well as visiting the estate in Honolulu, I still enjoy the comments from all of the Magnum fans. And I must say, you would think this show is still in production. I sometimes wish it was. Now wouldnt it be nice to have a reunion of this show..?? Hmmm, I wonder if anybody else has thought of that.?? (laughs), Magnum then and Now..?? Hmmmmmm. Maybe Magnum could meet Dog the Bounty Hunter. I live in Mississippi, and make frequent visits to Biloxi. I just wonder if there could be adventures in Biloxi such as Honolulu. Might make an interesting concept for a new TV series. Mike Koskie.

Hawaii Five-O Season Five disc 1 episode "You don't have to kill to get rich-but it helps" Robin's Nest was used again. This episode shows William Shatner and Ben climing up to the second floor on the sea wall side of the house. Amazing how the under growth has not been trimmed as it is all tidy in this episode yet when I was there in Dec 06 it was really over grown.

Dave: It was nice to see the Estate in the Hawaii 5-0 episode "Cloth of Gold," but this shot does not provide us with any view of the interior. For what we know, except for the external scenes and one or two balcony scenes, the rest was made in the studios. Most likely it was.

Thomas when I was talking about the Hawaii 5-0 episode Cloth of Gold I was referring to the main house not the guest house. The main house in real life is totally different from thw house in Robin's nest as all inside shots were filmed at Diamond Head studios. This episode will show all Magnum Fans what the real house looks like. Cheers.

My wife and I managed to make it to Robin's Nest late last month...August 2008. Yeah, the place looks a little run down (well a lot), but there's a volleyball net out and a few ladders 'round so the place still looks like it's lived in. Swimming in the pool was wonderful, you just fall in love with the place. The walk from the car park was much shorter than I expected and we had the pool to ourselves. Loved it.
By the way...best episode... of course..."Home From The Sea".

My favorite show was the last show of season 7 . I think it is called " Limbo " It was supposed to have been the final show of Magnum and how the show was to have ended , then a 8th season was added . To me it is a great show and I love the music of John Denver . The song " Looking for Space " was a perfect song to fit the show's theme .

My choice for favorite Magnum episode would have to be "Laura" from Season 7 (a real tear jerker)! I also have to include a runner-up episode "Out of Synch" also from Season 7. What can I say; just loved Tom Selleck and Dana Delaney together!!!

Good point here Bob, regarding the use of remote locations in short sequence! Before we knew the Islands, we have not noticed this, of course. But later on, it became so obvious that the series created a "fictive" Island by collecting scenes from its arbitrary, distant from each other parts into a sequence fitting the storyline. Th majority of viewers will probably never notice.

I have been reading the comment on here and I have to agree with you all. I lived on Oahu from 1981 through 1989, pretty much the entire run of the series. I remember always coming across a crew shooting a scene for the show all over the island. Once they were filming downtown and I stood around for hours to watch Magnum run out of a buildling and jump into the Ferrari and drive off. I was amazed that this 30 second scene took about 2 hours to set up for. I still visit there every year. Just to relive those days. I even met Tom Selleck once. I spent several months tracking down the mani characters. I found TC's favorite place to play basket ball when he was not working. Tom Selleck used to frequent this little package store, I "bumped" into him one evening. I was surprised by how tall he was. And by how easy going and friendly he was. Rick I met at a car show and Higgins on a college campus of all places. I have watched the Anderson estate slowy get more run down each year and it is sad that they now have the black screens up blocking the view to the home, but I can understand. Back in the 80's and in the early 90's that place was a zoo with tourist. They would get up on the wall for photos and really make a mess of the place. :) I will admit that I may have contributed a little. Now I live in Texas and relive my days there with the DVD collection. The only bad part of living there was knowing that when Magnum was driving around in the car they outdoor scenery was really jumping all over the island. One second he would be on the North Shore, the next Pearl City. Funny to see the car turn a corner and magically jump to a location 20 minutes away. That said the show was still fun to watch when it was on the air and now.

We have just returned from two weeks in the islands. I finally was able to find the estate, but the tide was too high both days we tried to walk the beach. We have our favorite spots in the islands, but the weather was gorgeous and hands down, it was the prettiest location we visited this time. I qualify as a fanatic and trivia nut, so I can die happy now. Thanks for the pictures for those of us who could not get close. I even have a few shots from out jet as we left the islands. Perfect ending.

Last March we finally made it to Robin's Nest and even though the estate looked pretty beat up it was still awesome to be there. We came across a beach bum barb-e-quing at the entrance from the back of the estate to the tidal pool where Thomas works the lock. The beach is beautiful and when you look at the estate you get over the flaws and lack of up keep and can almost feel you are an extra on your favorite episodes.
Highly recommended trip for all Magnum PI fanatics.

We spent a few hours on the beach by the tidal pool and our 21 month old daughter loved it there because of the calm water that she could play in. It was pretty neat to swim there and to check out the rear view of the estate. It is funny that Hollywood picked that location and turned it into "the Estate." That won't dampen my enthusiasm for watching old episodes though.

I was in Oahu two weeks ago and one of the highlights was visiting "robin's nest". The beach and tidal pool are gorgeous. I had my photo taken on the beach and at the front gate. Back at home, I have started watching all the episodes on DVD from season one (what's with the cheesy opening theme music in season one?). I was delighted to see the very first scene in the series feature Magnum emerging from the tidal pool, onto the beach and sneaking around the back wall...where I had just been. Lots of fun! Thanks so much for this site, I used the directions and found everything easily!

Yes I will never understand why Mrs Anderson won't allow any walking tours of the grounds. She could almost ask any price, limit the amount of people in at anytime. I am not planning to return to Hawaii until 2010 but if she opened the grounds up today I would be booking today. She can open the grounds up once or twice a week to see how it would work out. I am sure the State tourist buearu would help her out to organize it. She has a money maker there as hundreds of Magnum Fans would come as would other none Magnum Fans. If she opened it they would come.

I just completed watching the FINAL season of Magnum P.I. and just get teary eyed when I watch the FINAL episode: Resolutions. Went to see "Robin's Nest" and "Island Hoppers" yesterday! As everyone else has stated... couldn't see much... just the tidal pool and a tiny view of the guest house. Oh well, it was still pretty cool! The East coast is my favorite anyway. We watched the sun come up over waimanalo beach and then went down to the "estate". Since we moved here to Hawaii I have become quite the magnum fan... it's more fun than it was when i was a kid! Thanks for the info!

I was watching the Sleuth Channel the other day and stumbled upon a movie with Tom Selleck and James Whitmore Jr (Baa Baa Black Sheep, The Rockford Files (as was Tom Selleck)). Whitmore played Nuzo and Billy Joe Bob in 3 separate episodes of Magnum, P.I. I found it very interesting as the two actors seemed to have an equal role in the film although it was very Magnum, P.I. like. In the movie Selleck wore his graduation ring form the Military Academy/West Point (ARMY). Of course in Magnum, Tom has the team ring and is a graduate of Annapolis/Naval Academy but didn't wear his Naval graduation ring in Magnum, P.I.
Try as I might I couldn't get the name of the film but would guess it was made before Magnum, P.I. as both actors looked younger.
(I love 5-0 too Dave).

Yes I can relate to being at Robin Master's estate too this past year . Wasn't that cool to be there . I would have loved to have talked to Mrs. Anderson if I could . The one thing I remember walking through the waves coming in , was that the water was so warm and so green . The lakes back here in Saskatchewan are just a little bit colder . Much colder . I want to go back there some day , and I will .

during my one week stay at Oahu I took the opportunity on September 26th, 2007 to have a look `round the Anderson estate. I took a walk on the beach on the tidal pool and I have seen most of the famous places through the fence. I took a nap under the palm trees and I enjoyed it very much because I remebered the time when I was a boy in the eighties and watching Magnum PI in TV. After one hour I had to say goodbye knowing this was the first and the last time in may life I visited this lovely place...
Now I am back home and I watch from time to time Magnums adventures on DVD with a smile, because I was there.

Considering this show and all its wonderful themes I must add a note to pay homage for all those who passed and suffered on December 7th, 1941 during the dastardly attack on Pearl Harbor which bought the US into WW2. A day that will live in infamy for eternity.
I also want to add a note for my deceased father who was an original member of the USS Wisconsin BB-64 (Battleship). The Wisconsin left Virginia and traveled to the West Coast through the Panama Canal, which my father told me, he can almost see the jungle growing right before his eyes while he passed through the canal with the rest of the crew on board. The Wisconsin then made its way to Pearl Harbor to run through some pre battle exercises before her final destinations of the Philippines and Japan. The Wisconsin was launched on December 7th, 1943, exactly 2 years after the attack on Pearl and its keel was laid on January 25th-my birthday. My father adored the NAVY. Tom Selleck also has had some ties with the NAVY.

Thanks for the info, we were there on November 17th, 2007. We had a blast swimming in the tidal pool out behind the estate. The locals were there having a picnic. Condition of the estate was rough. I hate to see it in such need of repairs. If anyone would be interested I took probably 30-40 pictures between the estate and the main house. I would love to seen it inside the grounds, and feel certain that they could probably pay for renovations easily if they were to open it up even if it was one day a week.

I say, that's pretty interesting that the surf was way to big on your visit. I remember in "Ki'is Don't Lie", (with the beautiful Morgan fairchild), when A.J. Simon intruded on the beach pretending to go surfing he was chased away by Magnum and T.C. as they both told A.J. "There is no surf". Haha tough guys. (A.J. Simon---A.J. Cooper). In fact anytime you look at the tidal pool there is no big surf. Although you can hear from a distance in the front of the estate the surf in the background.

When I was at Pearl Harbor , you go to a museum with a movie theater , then another theater with a hugh screen . The sound is loud and makes it feel is if you are there when Pearl Harbor was being bombed . There is a gentleman on the film talking about what is was like . He still has tears in his eyes . By the time you take the boat ride out to the Arizona , you really feel for soldiers . Yes I seen the oil that still comes up to the surface . I did not know that they are called black tears . Thanks for telling me that . Magnim PI show did a very good job describing Hawaii and Pearl Harbor . This weekend being rememberance day in Canada and Veterans day in the US , I would like to pay tribute to all service men and women . Thank you for our freedom we enjoy today . At the Memorial of the Battleship USS Arizona in Pearl, the oil droplets that rise to the surface there are known as "black tears". 65 years later and the ship is still releasing oil.
Thanks for mentioning bringing back feelings as it does for me everytimne I watch "Magnum, P.I." as many of the shows have something to do with the NAVY, ARMY or Marines and also shows about the Far East as even the second title or show whas called "China Doll". These feelings I get are easy to relate with as I was in the Far East with the NAVY for not quite 4 years then did many years with an Aviation Unit "on the mainland".

I was watching one of the shows from season 3 . It was about a lady trying to put her deceased father's ashes over the sunken ship Arizona at Pearl Harbor . Since I visited Pearl Harbor , for me to watch the show now sure brings back the feelings I had when I was there earlier this year . To be at a major site of world history really is something to feel and experince .

Well there was no Larry and Roger on "Las Vegas" tonight.
That Danny is pretty disrespectful to "Cooper" though. But then again maybe it's because Cooper likes to have a beer. Some things never change...so did Magnum. Cooper's diggs are a step up from Magnum's I think, not including the tidal pool, although the estate was paradise.

Very suprised to see the estate featured in an episode of Hawaii Five-O from season 2 - filmed in 1969! The episode is entitled "Forty Feet High and It Kills" and is on the first disc of the recent DVD release. The estate looks very nice and must be quite new, although I couldn't spot the guest house in an overhead shot, perhaps it was built after 1969. Otherwise everything looks just about as it did for Magnum a dozen years later. Check it out!

Yes I must say it was great to see the crew on "Las Vegas". Although I must say that Roger and Larry appear to have changed physically. It was interesting as to who they were in the show and they had their same names. Roger was an aviation tycoon and Larry was in the food business.

(That is quite a coin collection that "Cooper" has).

yes, it was fascinating to see them all reunited, even if I am not found of Las Vegas as such. I think that especially for Roger Mosley this is a fantastic opportunity to act with a great exposure. IMDB showed him last acting 2003 in one episode of District. Similarly, last role of Larry Manetti was in Hallmark production Back to You and Me, 2005. Its so nice that Tom Selleck thinks of his long time acting fellows from Magnum times, and they clearly keep door open for John Hillerman! Lets hope to see them all 4 together, reunited for one more time!

Aloha: My wife and I just got back from Hawaii the other day and had a great time. You need to check the tide chart in The Honolulu Advertiser and do the math if you want to go to the estate at low tide. We where there at 7am on Monday. I have to say that being a fan of Magnum PI and watching the show back in the 80's and know that it is on dvd, swimming in the tidal pool and sitting on the rock was a fantastic experience. All beaches in Hawaii are public beaches, but this one is special to all Tom Selleck fans and should be respected as such as well as to Mrs Anderson who owns the estate. She is very well respected for all the charity work that she has done ove all the years in Hawaii.
The estate is run down and rumor has it that it wll be a part of the plot in the Magnum Pi movie that Robin Masters has lost all his money and askes Magnum for his help to get it back. Mrs Anderson has put a time limit on having the estate fixed up pending the movie being shot but will not wait much longer.

I was watching "Foiled Again" and I found it quite amusing that in the beginning at the fencing competition everyone is dressed in at least casual attire, yet there is Magnum the only one to be in a tank top and shorts.
The romantic interest of Higgins in this episode would actually be a romantic "interest" of Magnums in an earlier show. This would not be the first time that Magnum and Higgins would be "involved" with the same lady, either in the same story or 2 seperate stories.

Time(.com), just came out with a list of the 100 Best TV shows of all time. I was watching "Did You See the Sunrise" (Part II), and I found it interesting that while Maggie is talking to Buck Greene in Buck's office she refers to T.C. as Warrant Officer but later as T.C. is headed to the airfield to "grab" a loach, the guard at the airfield would address T.C. as Lieutenant. I found this strange as he was a Warrant officer on active duty in the Marines. Most Warrants are Warrants because they fly more than that of the full range of officer ranks above them. In fact Aviation Warrants only real job is that of an Aviator rather than regular officers who have collateral duties. Aviation Lieutenants do receive more pay though.
You have to love those dogs, Zeus and Apollo. When Magnum leaves Higgins in the middle of Higgin's story in the Nest, Higgins continues with his story to his "lads", Zeus and Apollo.
I thought it was quite bold that the script would have Ivan use epithets on T.C while they were in the Jungle.
You can tell by Magnum's demeanor, at the end, that he did not all together cherish what he did at the very end of this episode.

I was watching "Did You See the Sunrise?" and found it curious and perhaps a litte backwards in the beginning as Magnum is about to jump into the water with his surf ski off T.C.'s helicopter (I flew in the same one, only the ARMY version as a member of the ARMY National Guard), that the rear strap had been released first and not the forward strap that were attaching the surf ski to the helo skids. The rear strap would be very difficult to release, especially unstrapping it first, as it was located to the rear of the passenger door on the chopper.
When Magnum, Julie and Mac are in that Hawaiian restaurant, the woman to Mac's left as they are sitting down is Mac's mother in real life. I was sorry to see Mac go so early in the series as I enjoyed the relationship Mac had with the rest of the crew, especially Magnum.
When Magnum winds up back at the Nest after Mac's death and he meets Higgins on the beach, you can see the true affection and concern Higgins has for Magnum as Magnum tells Higggins the Ferrari was totaled and Higgins does not even flinch or bat an eye.
It happened again...when Higgins is consoling Magnum about Mac's death and then asks Magnum who would want to kill Magnum, T.C. walks into the room. How, by God, did T.C. get inside.

I was watching "Texas Lightning" and came upon some interesting points. If you notice in the very beginning when the "terrorist" is shot on the escalator, the man directly behind the victim on the escalator in that quick shot of the victim being hit by the bullet, oddly has a striking resemblence to Magnum, cap and all.
In the scene where Magnum shows up at the card game with T.C., Rick and Jeannie, T. C. is wearing a BDU soft cap with the NAVY SEAL Trident patch on the front. I find this to be an act of friendship on Magnum's part as T.C. was a Marine and not in the NAVY. Magnum must have given the soft cap to T.C. I wonder if Magnum gave the soft cap to T.C. while there were in Nam or afterwards.
During Magnum's escape off the yacht with Jeannie, in the scene where the dinghy is in the ocean, those close ups of the dinghy show the ocean to be like glass, while the distant shots are more realistic. They must have shot the close ups in a pool.

So, I was watching "Italian Ice" and noticed a couple of items. After the rescue of Katrina when Katrina sits down with Higgins at the Nest she begins to reflect on the talents of Higgins, one of which is chess playing. She would say that she remembers sitting right here in the living room and watching Higgins giving Robin and her father a thrashing. This statement alone should clear up any ambiguity if Higgins is in fact Robin Masters (not to mention the helicopter pick up of Masters during "J. Digger Doyle"). Higgins would then go inside and proceed to gather Katrina's "double" breakfast.
When Magnum comes out to get in the Ferrari and head into Honolulu, after turning down Katrina's advances, if you notice he has his hat on when he drives out the nest like he usually does. When they cut to the next scene of the Ferrari coming around the bend the driver has no hat on and it doesn't even look like Magnum. Sure enough when he parks his car to meet with Margo (Mimi Rogers), his hat is on as he is driving before he parks.
During the balcony scene after the scuffle, Magnum has fell to the ground you can see Magnum's foot and he has no socks on. That wouldn't be the first time he goes on missions "sockless". Pretty cool.
At the very end of the episode, when Magnum is tucking the answer sheet back for the cross word puzzle in his jacket pocket they end with the camera focused on Margo rather than Magnum. I found that to be interesting as Magnum is the Star of the show. Quite possibly it has something to do with the fact that Mimi Rogers and Tom Selleck were in fact romantically involved for some time. (See also Jacqueline Ray in "J. Digger Doyle"). Mimi was also married to Tom Cruise from 1987-1990 as she is 6 years Curise's senior. Mimi also introduced Cruise to Scientology.

Oh Thomas on THE Islands...It is actually 162 episodes, 154 Stories/Titles and 8 of those 154 are two part Stories for a total of 162 episodes. I am still wondering what islands you are referring to when you reference your name. For me I wish there were 300 episodes in total.
As far as me putting a message for every story, I don't know about every story, possibly, if I am interested enough and would care to share some details about my favorite show.
Regarding me taking a swim in the Tidal Pool, I can tell you from experience that it will be just as soothing and invigorating as the swims I have taken while in the NAVY, in the Philippines, in Thailand and in Australia.
Oh yes, I am on one of the islands right now too.

I was watching "Computer Date" and it happened again. Just like the beginning of "The Black Orchid", Magnum is chatting with Higgins in the guest house, during the beginning of the episode among other things about Higgins and Higgins trying to get in shape for a visit by his once fiancee. All of a sudden there is a horn blowing for Magunm, it is Magnum's limo. Who, by God, let the Limo in this time.

Another note on "The Sixth Position", towards the very end as Magnum picks up the distraught Kendall (Andrea), and begins to carry her off the stage, if you notice her stocking exposure is uneven, the right leg's stocking is knee high. When they cut to the next shot as Magnum is approaching the exit/entrance door to the hall, the stockings are even, both knee high.
I was watching "Ghost Writer", and noticed when TC approaches the bar in the beginning he salutes a very beautiful girl at a side bar...I'm wondering why she didn't get any lines. During the dinner with Harold, Harold asks Magnum to make a blessing and found it very humble and noble that Magnum would say "Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the Earth" - tuly Magnum. During the scene in the guest house, they give a shot of Magnum washing dishes and they show the sink, that has to be the smallest sink I have ever seen. Magnum's subsequent conversation with his client and his reference to asking himself questions about his service in the NAVY and his still asking himself questions maybe a hint as to what would ultimately happen in the very last story, "Resolutions", where Magnum does indeed get reinstated in the NAVY.

I was watching "The Sixth Position", with the beautiful native New Yorker Andrea Marcovicci, and found an interesting moment during the episode. I found it funny or rather curious that when Magnum is released from jail, he walks to the desk in the police station house to collect his personnal belongings. When Magnum pulls his wallet out of the bag, Magnum opens his wallet up to check for his money to make sure it is there.

I was watching "The Last Page". about Magnum doing a favor for a buddy Vet from Vietnam. I found it interesting that during the scene in the beginning of the episode in the cemetary, the buddy would mention a Friendly Fire incident in Nam. Friendly Fire was common in Nam and it would be the advent of a term called Fragging which is intentional Friendly Fire. Fragging is considered murder. I write this because now I think of Pat Tillman (former NFL Arizona Cardinal), as well.

I was watching "The Woman on the Beach" the other day and found it odd that, towards the beginning of the show, when Magnum is heading out the driveway, Rick pulls in the driveway and starts a conversation with Magnum as they are in their cars. If you notice the shots facing Magnum and the shots behind Magnum show different head angles shown by Magnum. Towards the end of the dialogue Magnum seems to looking straight at Rick rather than having his head turned.

Glad to have found this site. I had wondered if the house was owned by studios because I saw it in a Hawaii 5-O episode. Perhaps during that time someone other than Mrs. Anderson owned it? Does anybody know about that? As much as I like Magnum P.I., i'm afraid one can see a "lack of desire" in the last year or so of the show. A remake with the originals would be good as long as they didn't put alot of "flashbacks" in. Perhaps its time for a new show in Hawaii. Hope they keep it as upbeat as Magnum was. My children noticed the first year or so had different music. I told them to listen to it and what did it sound like? The 70s mystery/detective shows. So I told them they had to develop a new sound for the 80s. Also, as the show was developed, there where more complex plots/scripts and not so much "babe" stuff. I appreciated that. I think Tom Selleck can handle "thicker" plots than he is usually given.

Say it ain't so, Tom? In referring to the planned Magnum, P.I. movie, Tom Selleck told the press he wouldn't have anything to do with it, dashing all hopes the actor would at least make a cameo of some sort. Not only did he reject the idea, but he went as far as to call the it "stupid." Say what? Stupid? C'mon Tom, what could be stupid about taking a hit television show from the 80's and updating it to create an amazing film?
Ever since the Magnum movie was announced, everyone from George Clooney to Vince Vaughn have been rumored to be competing for the lead role. Sure, this was exciting news for people like Martha who absolutely adore Mr. Clooney and wish he could be cloned so that the actor would have the chance to appear in thousands of films each year, however, the rest of us were really hoping the original P.I. would show up at some point, say something cool and convince us our money was well spent. Well, according to Tom Selleck, we were all extremely stupid for thinking that. You now have my permission to begin pounding your head against the wall.

Have we all Gone crazy? There is one major fallacy with the entire SERIES. Does anyone know what it is? It has to do with the Ferrari.

Magnum is a Private Investigator and as such when he is working a case he should remain unoberserved or stealthy. How for the life of God do you remain unobserved in a RED FERRARI? A car that would stand out if there were a thousand on Oahu, while in reality there was probably only two, Master's and the one used by J. Digger Doyle!!

It's official folks. I was watching on the Sleuth Channel, the top 25 sleuths of all time and yes, Magnum was right at the top spot. He was ahead of others like the Rockford Files, Miami Vice, NYPD Blue, Law and Order etc etc.

I think its a BIG mistake not to use the original cast for a Magnum PI movie. Look what happened to Miami Vice! Had Don Johnson done the role (which he is still young enough to do as is Tom Selleck) the movie might have been a hit.....I would love to see Thomas return to Robins Nest and look up his old buddies - maybe plan a wedding for his grown up daughter on the estate. There are all kind of possible ideas for a get together of the original cast......Just a remake of the 80's with new people is stupid......Let's take it to current times in Oahu with Thomas, T.C, Higgins, and Rick...PLEASE

I found my answer regarding the mix up with different episode titles for the same episode. In the beginning of the show they sometmes also say things like "France two years ago" or "Sicily 24 hours ago" which i thought were to be the episode titles. Ha Ha.

Thanks Thomas. Although on my episode list I Have episode 7.11 as "Missing Melody" and 7.12 as "Death of the Flowers". I was originally referring to "J. "Digger" Doyle" episode 1-17 was aired as something else and episode 2.13 "The Jororo Kill" was aired as something else too. I do remember both aired titles had something to do with France.

I have to say that I wish time could have stood still during the Series. Absolutely one of the best shows ever...it had everything.
One of my favorite episodes, "Memories are Forever 1 and 2", it brings a tear to my eyes all the time. I served in the Philippines and Japan from 1980-1984 in the NAVY.
To Tom Selleck and the rest of the cast and crew, you did an excellent job. Hats off for a job well done.
You should do a Magnum, P.I. movie now.

Dana why won't Mrs. Anderson even consider opening up her property grounds to Magnum Fans ? I have stated below that I would be will to pay whatever she wants just to wonder around on the grounds for even juts 15 minutes. She has a money maker here and she only has to open it up for a limited time each year and when or if it ever stops making money then she stops. The Queen is never at home when her home is open to the public. Perhaps she is not in need of extra money and if that is the case then good for her. The property around her home means so much to so many and why she won't consider opening it up for even just a month each year. If she opens it they will come. Ask her as she would also be helping out Hawaii with extra tourists flocking to see the estate. Everyone wins here and she can stop it at any time. Asl her on behalf of us Magnum Fans ??

HI, I have been working on the anderson Estate for about a year now doing some remodeling and a lot of upkeep. Mrs Anderson is a wonderful person. She does not no why there is so much interest in the home. I told her I am such a big fan of the Series I absolutly loved it. It is so strange being here I get so many flashbacks of the show. its funny I picture Higgins and the lads all the time when working on the property its almost like seeing a ghost. I love walking around the estate what memories of Tom Selleck. I am 36 now so I watched the show when I was in High school loved the Ferrari TC's helicopter what a great show. This is the best expierience I have ever had. It almost brings tears to my eyes when I pull on the estate nothing has changed. if you get a chance to come to Oahu yopu must see the estate.. Dave, since you have the right contacts, would you be able to get a hold of the correct email for the producers of the new Magnum, PI movie. Maybe we can mount an email campaign to reverse the planned course of the movie. After all, it was the fans that protested who gave Magnum an extra season on TV. Perhaps, this could snowball into something more positive. How about it?

My friend Nancy at the Starbulletin in Honolulu says the entertainment desk at her paper has confirmed that none of the original cast has even been asked. It looks like the new Magnum movie will be with Matthew McConaughey as Magnum, Steve Zahn as his friend Rick, Tyrese Gibson as chopper flying T.C., and William H. Macy as Higgins. I don't like this any more than you or other Magnum fan around the world. I have called by phone Universal and talked to people and they have never considered Selleck bankable for the big screen version of Magnum. Plus when Selleck and Universal were talking years ago he had wanted producer power over the production which Universal was dead set against. As long as they use the Estate I guess this is the best we can hope for.

Thanks for all your hard work in posting these great pictures! You have done the impossible, which is to bring Magnum, PI up to the current date. Robin's Nest is still there! Every time I view an episode now,I have a new found interest in learning the actual layout of Robin's Nest. I would also like to add that a new Magnum, PI movie without any involvement from the original cast members will be a dead loss, and will guarantee a straight to dvd release. Anyone other than Tom Selleck as Magnum is unacceptable.

Just drive past the front gate for another minute and you find a public parking lot to park and then just walk up. Be carefull which time of day you pick as the tide could be coming in. There is a site that will give you low tide times. My friends and I in Dec 06 did it this way and it was perfect.
I have a question for all Magnum Fans reading this...how many of you fans would "pay" to take a tour of Mrs. Anderson's Magnum Estate for say 15 minutes or 30 minutes. I would be willing to pay $50...or $100 or even $150 to get on to her property with my camera and a fresh memory card. Just wondering ???

Magnum P.I. is an unending treasure for those who love great cast chemistry and excellent writing. Not to mention the stunning views of Oahu. I am on season four right now of the DVD's. The invention of the DVD is justified just because we can now enjoy Magnum in a way we never could before. Every time Magnum turns to the camera, or corrects somebody on his being a private investigator, I give my friends a big high five. If these moment were taken away I would feel like a "latter day Job," a la Jonathan Higgins. Thanks for the great pics!

well I originally thought she was a groundskeeper and I was going to ask her to tour the property but finding out it was her and her saying that she didnt understand our fascination with the property I didnt want to. She did say that they had numerous crew on hand during filming to put up green around parts of the estate to make it look bigger. She said Tom Selleck was a very hard working actor and the only other things she said I could remember was that when Tom was filmed in his surf ski it was only in 18" of water. I did ask her if she was scared to climb the coconut trees, she said no you just had to be careful with the wind.

Have any of you seen a recent picture of the original cast. Selleck is looking good for 62 but the other two are not looking that good and no one has seen Hillerman in years. A remake of Magnum should have been done a few years ago but Universal dragged their feet to the point that they can now say they really are too old to pull it off.
I sent Universal a plot idea having Magnum (Selleck) being a mentor to a new PI. They need advive from Higgins and have to fly to the old age home in TC's Son's chopper. Rick could still in charge at the club as well as being the new Icepick. This idea could fly and we still get the old cast.

I was there yesterday and saw a person climbing a palm tree and cutting down the coconuts. I waited and waited and finally saw the woman climbing down. She saw me and i waived. She came to the back side near the beach. I asked her if she was the owner and she said yes. I said you must be mrs. anderson, ive read about you on the internet. She said it was all lies jokingly. We talked for probably 20 minutes. My cousin though she was being rude but she just didnt understand all the hype about the house. She said all it was was a backdrop and they didnt film much but the outside shots there. Everything else was filmed at the diamond head studios. I asked her how her house was picked for the show and she said they just knocked on her door one day. I also asked if she talked to anyone from the cast lately, she said she still keeps in touch but not that much. She was nice i thought and i really wanted to ask her if she needed help around there but i didnt want to step on any toes.

I went by the estate again today to take pictures of what little you can see throught the vegetation. (I will upload them soon.) I ran into a neighbor who is there several times a week and it turns out that Mrs. Anderson still lives there. She is actually the one who put the tarps up. Apparently not too long ago you could actually rent a room in the main house but that is over. I was told she is a very nice person. I'll let you know if anything else transpires.

maybe you should write, just write a letter to the estate, do not mind the incomplete address. Who knows what would happen, but I can imagine that legal issues (who is a certified contractor in Hawaii or even in the county) might put an end to your idea!

I just got back from "Robin's Nest". I found it thanks to my sister who knew where it was (we still passed it 3 times) It was very easy to find from the beach. It is indeed in TOTAL disrepair! The main house has some tarps covering the porch area, and the guest house has a horizontal 3/4 inch wide crack running through all the columns on the beach side. The wall will probably fall down soon. I really hope the owners will take up the offer of some of these trades people who are kind enough to volunteer their time(though I have a feeling that money is not the problem). I do stone restoration and would gladly lend a hand.It would be great if this grand estate got the respect and TLC that it deserves!

They guarantee reliability of the characters and through it, the success of the movie. That´s what Magnum P.I. stands for. So universal, do it right. It´s up to you.
Where can i get more information about the estate? If Mrs. Andersons got so money problems, why don´t she sold the estate? Where´s her family to support her?

Awesome pics! I picked a couple dozen for wallpapers, LOL. It was (is) my favourite TV show. And since buying the DVD's, I'm amazed how well it has stood the test of time.
Regarding the link posted here regarding Mr. Selleck "trashing" Magnum PI. I have some good news for us PI fans. That article is out of context. What Mr. Selleck was referring to was that he wasn't interested in being in some "stupid cameo". He, in no way referred to the series as being stupid. In fact, there have been many opportunities for a made for TV Magnum movie through the years, and he has taken a gamble in turning them down with the hopes of a bigger budget theatrical movie (something he felt would do the series greater justice). Unfortunitly, things became mired in numerous problems and now Tom Selleck has grown older (he's now 62). Going through all these frustrations and from a starring role to being likely to old now and doing a cameo, I can understand why he would feel that way.
Tome Selleck loved the series. The 8th season wouldn't even likely exist if he hadn't felt Thomas Magnum (and fans) deserved a better series ending than the end of the 7th season.
Back to the pics, thanks for sharing them with us. For many, what you have provided here may be as close as we can get to the real thing. :)

Well my friends and I got to beach at Robin's Nest and with the tide going out it was a very pleasent walk to the tidal pool. My friend had his wife hold him like Magnum did for that girl who was learning to swim in the opening credits. I took about 100 pics plus some nice ones of the grounds. When hold your camera high over your head and fire off several I got some nice ones of her property.
If you are going enjoy this visit to the Nest.

Well its 13 Dec and in one week I'll be in Hawaii and visiting Robins Nest with my friends. Since my friends wife turns 40 on Dec 25th I made up a Birthday/Christmas card from Robins Nest. Higgins did all the talking on behalf of Mr Masters Magnum TC and Rick. Four different people signed it and my friend and I plan to have it delivered Dec 25th at breakfast in the hotel. Someone with the letter on a gold or silver plate walking around calling her name out. People who have seen the card were flabber gasted.

The beach is NOT private property as a friend of mine who works for the Star Bulletin newspaper has informed me. A sign was more than likely put up in the "hopes" Magnum Fans would not walk on the beach. Anyone can use the parking lot down from the Estate. I and my friends arrive on Dec 20th and on Dec 22nd we will be at the beach next to the Estate taking tons of pictures. It is a damn shame that Mrs Anderson does not charge admission to the grounds at least once a week because I would even pay $100 bucks for fifteen minutes of picture taking time on the grounds. She has a money maker there as once Magnum Fans all over the world hear she is letting some in there would a back log of Magnum Fans wanting to get in. Even a month or two per year with a day or two per week and she would clean up. I wonder why the Hawaiian Tourist Agency has not approached her with a proposal which would benefit everyone ??

I will be in Maui and Oahu later this year. We have a rental car and I definitely want to check out Robin's Nest. Is the security ok for parking at the public beach? I thought I read somewhere that this was iffy. Also, can anyone offer some tips? I respect the owner's privacy and I merely want to see the site with my own two eyes in person. Thanks. My wife and I were in Hawaii so we drove by. There is a no tresspassing sign on the beach headed toward the tidal pool, so we honored their wishes. The directions were spot on, thank you. From the road, you get a decent look at the guest house, servant quarters, and a glimpse at the tennis courts. You have great overhead pictures.

When I vacation i normaly go to Maui. a friend of mine saw the estate and was very moved emotionally as he could not believe he was at the place where they filmed Magnum. This site has incredible pictures. My next trip to the islands i am going to check out Robin's nest.

The URL said that a Director was signed to do the Magnum Movie. Nothing since then which could mean doom for the Movie. I fear they will not use the original cast and bring in George Gooney to "try" and fill Tom Sellecks shoes. Rumor has it he would play Magnum's little brother even though Magnum didn't have one in the TV series.

I have been a Magnum PI fan since day 1 of the series. I still am. In fact I am waiting for the release of the third season in dvd format. When I came upon your website with your superb pictures of Robin's Nest (Anderson Estate), the nostalgia actually made me misty. Hey everyone sorry for all the repeats of my message but I thought I had done something wrong when I hit the "add comment".
I still think it is a good idea to open up Robins Nest ( Mrs. Anderson's) but yes careful planning has to be done. I don't think at any given time there hundreds of Magnum Fans right there in Hawaii. If the estate were to be open for say a month or two every summer then the Magnum Fans would come. For one or two months I am sure Mrs. Anderson could adjust her life. The queen's home in Britain is open when she is not at home and so could the Anderson Estate.
Its just and idea that could generate her some serious money as I would pay to see the grounds and take pictures. Maybe Mrs. Anderson has in the past has considered it and said no.
All I know is "I" would pay to see the estate in person.

this might be a good idea, which you have expressed here many, many times :-), but observe that the estate is a home to someone, and most of us will not be willing to give up the privacy of our home. What Ms Anderson might maybe more probably consider, would be to open the abandoned boats house, which we remember as Thomas Magnum's home.

How many Magnum Fans here would race back to Hawaii if they heard the grounds were open. For a price you could walk around were uor fav show was shot and take hundreds of photos. Once word got out I am sure many Magnum Fans from around the world would flock to Hawaii. So if the Hawaiian tourist agency is reading this get intouch with Mrs. Anderson.
This is just one Magnum Fans opinion.

I grew up watching that man who had a life I did envy so much... I said to myself I wanted to be like him when I were older... Thanks so very much for keeping MAGNUM in our memories... You have a great web-site and pictures. Thanks to you it was easy to find the estate. I saw about the same things that you have pictured. We stopped at the front of the estate and took a few photos and video. It was hard to see much. We then went to the public beech access where there were many locals. We parked there and walked to the estate's tidal pool. There were about ten people swimming in the area when we arrived. We spent over three hours swimming, snorkeling, taking pictures, and my wife even taped me re-enacting the opening scene from the Magnum pilot... I know, I can't help myself.
It was a great time and I'll never forget it!

Thanks for the pictures and description. I was able to easily locate the estate. Me and my family were able to swim on the beach (june 16 2005). The water was amazingly clear and calm (thanks to the rocks). If anyone is interested in swimming there, remember there is a beach access parking lot just to the north of the estate. All the beach is public access, so don't worry about swimming there.

If anyone is interested, I have about a dozen pictures that I took from the beach side and while I was in the water.

Thanks for the news! Have you made a picture of the new gate?

I am curious by myself. In the show at the entrance was a symmetric two wing gate,
which was at some time removed and replaced by one wing gate with the turtle symbol.
This was the gate which I have photographed. Now we have a 3rd gate, very curious
indeed! As far I know nobody knows really why the two-wing gate from the show with
the "RM" (Robin Masters) heraldic was removed.

Commenting on the picture of the gatehouse, I wanted to correct the comment about the gatehouse nevering appearing on the show, Infact on most any episode that showed the grounds of the estate, including the first and last episode, clearly shows the gatehouse on the grounds of the estate

great pics. went there about 10 years ago but didn't walk down the beach. wish i had and certainly will next time i go back. the house looks a bit rough. you have to wonder why mrs. anderson doesn't keep it up. i'm sure it's not cheap, but i'm sure universal paid her very well to use the house. again, great pics.
