outside in the early afternoon it’s 4C (35F) and raining steadily...after a short trip to supermarket and bakery I’ve been nestled at home, busying myself sorting through mail, washing dishes, dumping old magazines into the recycling bin, sweeping floors, and polishing shoes (all the while experiencing the remnants of a lingering cold)...days like this can make you want to fly off to the Caribbean, but I’ll have to settle for conjuring up a hearty stew, re-stringing the acoustic guitar, finishing off an engrossing (Half Blood Blues by Esi Edugyan) novel, and perhaps later watching Chaplin’s great film ‘Modern Times’ on the television.
as for this image, it’s a holdout from 5 or 6 weeks ago, and shows the very tall totem pole by the Maritime Museum, with West End apartment towers in the distance...centuries ago this land was occupied by the Coast Salish nation, but an influx of Europeans, and subsequently people from all over the world, have altered it's character...something about this shot’s sunniness appeals to me right now
