Guinness is good for you

a famous yet debatable advertising slogan...but the Guinness family were good for Vancouver when, in the late 1930s, they built this bridge across the waters of Burrard Inlet...seems they owned 4,000 acres of land in West Vancouver, and wanted to make it accessible to potential buyers...the Lion’s Gate bridge was literally the missing link, and the land sold well...oddly though, at the risk of ruffling a few feathers in Ireland, the prime area for housing, higher up with great views, was named British Properties

Always a bit controversial the Lions Gate Bridge designed by the Montreal firm Monsarrat and Pratley It opened in November 1938. with a 25c toll. On January 20, 1955, the Guinness family sold the bridge to the Province of British Columbia for $5,959,060, and in 1963, the tolls were dropped. Great shot David.
