Mashad is the holiest city of Iran because of the Shrine of emam Reza, the 8th shiiet emam. Every day thousands of pilgrims find their way to the shrine.
The sacred shrine with its golden dome is in the centre of a giant complex of mosques and squares full of brilliant islamic architecture,decorative art and pilgrims.
The hole complex is open to tourists except the shrine which is reserved for muslims. Photography is prohibited all over.



Mashad is de heiligste stad in Iran met als middelpunt de schrijn van imam Reza, de achtste shiietische imam. De schrijn wordt dagelijks bezocht door duizenden pelgrims.
Rondom de schrijn met zijn gouden koepel ligt een enorm complex van moskeeën in schitterende islamitische architectuur en pleinen vol pelgrims.
Het hele complex is toegankelijk voor toeristen met uitzondering van de schrijn zelf. Die is voorbehouden aan moslims. Fototgraferen is strikt verboden.
