Grave marker in Banff cemetery of an ancestor of my wife, who at 15 as an unhappy at home teenager signed on in the North West Mounted Police,(forerunners of the RCMP) as a bugle boy. He went west in the first contingent sent to what would be Alberta. His role was to get up first and wake everyone else. In an adventurous life he was at the meeting with Sitting Bull after the Sioux came north after teaching Custer a lesson in cavalry tactics. He was involved with ejecting the whiskey traders, and sat in on most of the Indian treaty signings that made the west farmland. An unimaginable life today.
