9/10/05 - Red Water Slide

A rose petal covered with dew drops - taken from the edge of the petal with a shallow depth of field in order to emphasize the petal's red edge and blur everything else. It's a picture of a red line, not a rose.
This image is based on two programs I attended this week - abstract photography (visual poetry) and the art of nature photography. Joe Miller (Mr. Abstract) says that a documentary photo is a declarative sentence ("This is a rose.") whereas an abstract is a line of poetry. A rose by any other photographer might not still be a rose. ??
It's fun to try these things - even though this doesn't look as good as what I thought I saw in the viewfinder. For mass market appeal, my PAD-2nd would be more popular http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/49025382
