My dog got hold of a baby snake today. It was black with red underneath from tail to head and long yellow on top from tail to head. Anyone know what kind of snake this might have been? The snake was about 7 inches long. I am surrounded by woods on two sides. And on the tail end of a lake. Dog grabbed it by the head and ran with it. He dropped it and once he did I could not describe the head on it. My cocker spaniel is ok but snake did not make it.

You can rest assured any snake in Florida that you would describe as "striped" is not venomous. So that's a little comforter. And also, ribbon and garter snakes both can vary in colors and be seen as grayish, tan, almost black and even green. So any of these colors with stripes running the length of its body. You most likely have a ribbon or garter snake.

We found a ribbon snake in our kitchen. It was about 18" long and its color was greyish. Does anyone have an idea as to what type of snake this is????
