Amrit - صور حديثة - is a Phoenician religious centre near present day Tartus. It was founded at a time the Achaemenid Persians had extended their realm to the western sea coast, and shows a mixture of the Phoenician civilasation and the Achaemenid one. It was too the mainland port for the Island-based nearby Arwad. I visited an ancient temple and the stadium (and tried to locate the harbour and some towers, but did not manage, partly because it was extremely hot).
