This is the reconstruction of a small merchantmen used in coastal seafaring, about 9,60 meters length and maximum 2,40 meters in width, dated in the 9th century AD. It was found during the salvage excavations at the Theodosian harbour at Yenikapı. Named Yenikapı 12 it had a load of amphorae and contained personal belongings of the crew. It was propelled by a single lateen sail and steered with a pair of quarter rudders, placed on both sides of the stern.
