The mosque and (to its left) the Ümmühan Hatun Medresesi (school), as seen from the northeast.
The mosque was re-modeled by the Ottomans in 1511. The ‘Ümmühan Hatun Medresesi’ is a former Byzantine monastery (10th century), which was transformed into a medrese (school) by the Seljuk in 1208. That happened on request of Ümmühan Hatun, the mother of the Seljuk sultan Allaeddin Keykubat I. In the 16th century the Bektaşi Order turned the school into a ‘Çilehane’. (Çilehane = House of ascesis, where Sufis would go to pray in seclusion). The entrance is situated in the southern extern wall of the Seyitgazi complex.
