Rose relates that she came in 3rd in this particular contest but I'd vote #1 if I had been around.
Rose also had some interesting comments about the City of Hialeah at the time: "Hialeah before the war was a quiet, laid back little town that loved it's citizens and did things for them all the time. Like every summer the town council hired school buses and took all the Hialeah kids to Miami Beach to swim in the ocean and fed them hot dogs & cokes. And every Xmas Triangle Park was decorated to the max and Santa Claus sat in the band stand and gave candy and small gifts to every Hialeah child. After the war the City of Hialeah GAVE every returning veteran a FREE lot to build their home on. My husband received one and we bought the adjoining lot so we had a large frontage, sold to a Cuban in 1975. 526 East 13th St."
