Pat, thank you very much for posting your memories. Do you recall what years you were at Henry's and when you were at Frank 'n Bun? What year did you go to Eastern and how long were you there? Thanks! Don

I remember Henry's very well. I got my first job working there as a "car hop" when I was in high school. I had a wonderful time working there & meeting people. Then I went to work at "Frank N Buns" just down the street. Even tho I was not of age to work at FNB the manager hired me (my sister worked there too). I had the so much fun working at these places. After graduation tho I got a real job at Eastern Air Lines. Those were the "good old days" , I loved them. Pat

When I was A Little Kid , around 5 and 6 years old, We would Go To Henry's, when we went Shopping, at Steven's Market, which was near Henry's. Henry's was Real Good, and My Whole Family , Liked Their Food. And the year, was around 1956. Great Place, Great Memories !!!!!!!!!

Note to Gail: Jumbo's Restaurant has changed little since the '50s or '60s other than the surrounding neighborhood. They still have the wooden plaques honoring the local junior and senior high schools.

Wow this is a great photo of miami. I love old photographs of dade county. I was just wondering if anyone had any photographs of jumbo's restaurant from the 60's. Inside and out. I remember eating there as a child. Also how about some from the corner of nw 62nd st and 7th ave 1950's 1960's. What about the old Hialeah skating rink and Mc Crorys and Three sisters on hialeah drive. How about some old photo's of Carol City 1960's, I also remember a place called Shells City which was some kind of department store on nw 7th ave and about 57th street in the City. What about the yearly carnival which was held at at palm springs mile every year in the 60's. Does anyone remember this place in the 60's? Red road and west 49th street. I would really love to see some pics of Funland on 79th street. I can go on and on. I am 48 years old now but have a real good memory since I was born. I was born in Miami at a hospital on the corner of NW 12th ave and 79th street in the late 50's. I was brought home to Hialeah on east 3rd street and our house was knocked down to build the Winn Dixie which is no longer there. I remember a family called Paul and Aileen Hiery or Harry, I remember her husband was a pilot for National Airlines and their daughter Linda attended was a Jackson General (Miami Jackson) Class of 62 After that we moved to park drive in Hialeah, lived next to a family called the Burke's. I remember a big toy store not to far from where I lived. In fact it was right of LeJune Road behind a liquor store called M&M. By the time I was six years old we lived in apartment number # at 674 west 29th street in Hialeah. At this time 29th street was still bare and a italian guy named Calabrese started to build many apartment buildings all around this area and many Cuban people moved in (1964) This is how I learned to speak spanish. I attended Mae M Walters elementary school for 6 years and than Filer Junior high and than Hialeah High School and Miami Springs Sr. I attended both high schools. I guess I will stop here. Anyhow pretty good memory for a kid. Also by the way my family doctor was Dr. Link on east 8th ave. Close to 9th street behind Carols Restaurant in Hialeah. If you ask me know what happened yesterday or a week ago I could not tell you. But ask me something from 46 years ago, I will tell you I was only two at the time. After the age of 18 I have short term memory loss. LOL If anyone can remember these places let me know. Plus I would love to see some pictures of these places. My parents names were Seymour and Audrey.

Henry's -- Not O'Henry's was owned by Henry Bressler of the Bressler's Ice Cream family. There were at least two locations... one in Miami Springs, and this one - on NW 27th Avenue at about 69th Street.

The image is a close-cropped enlargement from a photo taken by Robert M. Kelley of Kelly Photography [now retired] around 1961.

Henry's was on the West Side of NW 27th Avenue and was next door to the Turf Motel. The site later became the home of a gas company's office building.

I used to own this negative, now part of historian Seth Bramson's archive...
