Thank you to Beth Cohen for contributing this image of a map to the Tomboy Club which was owned by her father. Biscayne Bay may have been blue on this map but by 1964 it was almost destroyed by dumping sewage into it and the removal of mangroves along Miami Beach and on the mainland. The bay was no longer chock full of fish, manatees and other marine life that existed up until the early 1900's.

My father, Harold Green was the person who purchased a lounge and named the Tomboy Club in the early 1960’s. Dad was the one who had an artist, that worked on Orange Bowl floats, put the cat on the roof over the entrance with the blinking eyes. I helped paint inside and out as a young teenager. On weekend mornings I helped clean up the place. I didn’t like it, but always got a nice allowance.

My Dad worked long hours and was always looking for ways to increase the business.
I remember lots of problems with bands and violent locals. The era of Go-Go Dancers was getting started and the Tomboy Club was one of the first with “Go-Go Cages.”

Dad also had on a few nights where he had overweight, like up to 300 lb Go-Go dancers and according to my Mom they packed the house!

Dad sold the Tomboy Club to apparently Cohen?, who had the Go-Go dancers turn to Topless.

Our family moved on to starting a family restaurant in downtown Opa Locka called, Chick N Sub. No Go-Go or topless dancers.

I joined the Miami Police Department in 1968. Worked mostly in Homicide. Now retired, I have lots of stories about the Tomboy Club when and after Dad sold it.

Unfortunately now the Club is known as the most violent Topless Club in Florida with lots of murders on the property.
