1980 - the trains begin operation between the E-Satellite Terminal and main terminal at MIA

Miami International Airport, Florida

The E-Satellite opened in 1977 with a fleet of Airside Operations buses transporting passengers, flight crews and employees between the E-1 Bus Station and the Satellite Bus Station. Initially the E-Satellite was only staffed during peak hours of the day and at the end of their workday at 6 pm we would have to stop assigning flights to the Satellite and put them on remote parking pads on the south side of the Satellite and bus the passengers and flight crews to and from the main terminal. Eventually Terminal Operations added more employees to staff the Satellite 24-hours a day and we ended the remote operations except for international arrival cargo aircraft that came in late at night and they couldn't clear Customs at the General Aviation Center.
