The Navy moved their operations and reservists from the training center on Tigertail Avenue in Coconut Grove to this site in northwest Dade. The former Integrated Fire Control (IFC) site is now surrounded by apartment houses but it was the only thing in the area back in the 1960's through the 1970's. Charles was a missileman with the U. S. Army and stationed at their original Nike missile site just west of NW 47th Avenue and north of NW 186th Street right after the Cuban Missile crisis. The Army later built permanent buildings at the NW 186th Street site and at the missile launch base west of Red Road and just across the county line in Broward County. See http://www.pbase.com/donboyd/memories_missile_bases for more information on the Nike missile bases in Dade County.
