And to the Guest who posted on 12-SEP-2011, I'm sorry I didn't catch your comment about going to Northside Shopping Center, which was indeed special to the folks in Hialeah. But many things were built on Palm Springs Mile west of Red Road by the time Northside Shopping Center opened. Northside opened in February 1960 and the Palm Springs Village Shopping Center opened the following month in 1960. Please see this link for an aerial photo on my site of Northside Shopping Center a month after it opened: http://www.pbase.com/image/85075704
Thank you for posting about Northside, where I worked part-time for Sears in 1965 and 1966 before I went into the Coast Guard for four years. I returned to Sears in the fall of 1970 and left for an airline job in January 1973. Sears did not move from Northside to Westland. The Northside store remained open for years after Sears Westland opened in 1972 as I recall. A lot of Sears employees at Northside, including me, tried to transfer to the Sears Westland because the area around Northside was getting rough and a good number of sales associates and others were transferred. I didn't make the cut because the Sears Westland had a very small customer service department compared to the Northside store. Sears closed the Northside store far closer to the opening of the new Sears store at Aventura Mall than the opening of the Westland store. A lot of Sears Northside personnel were transferred to the Aventura store and some went to the large Hollywood Mall store which later closed due to the opening at a new store at the new Pembroke Lakes Mall.

I remember shopping there, too. My parents bought me my first Brownie outfit at the Sears Store there before it moved to Westland Mall.
