1968 - Super Bowl II in the Orange Bowl - $8.00 tickets and article about 50 kids crashing the gate

Orange Bowl, Miami, Florida

Update 3/20/13: I received an e-mail and this information from Jess Hearn: "On your website, 1960-1969 old Miami, you have a picture of the 1968 Super Bowl ticket and article about kids crashing through the Orange Bowl gate. I'm the one that first sent the e-mail out to my other two friends who crashed the gate with me. I have possession of the ticket and article. The story goes, after the cops rounded us up and threw us out, we helped a fan carry his attache case to his car where we asked him for his ticket stub. We would each take turns going in and tossing the ticket with weight to the other fellow. I was last, and the cops got wise and started chase. Luckily, I was able to grab the ticket and run around to the other side to get in. All of us got to see the second half. Please credit the picture to: Jess Hearn, John Peachey, George Moreyra"

This game in the Orange Bowl was called the AFL-NFL World Championship Game originally and was later known as Super Bowl II. The NFL's champion Green Bay Packers (9-4-1) beat the AFL's champion Oakland Raiders (13-1) 33 to 14. Bart Starr, quarterback for Green Bay, was named the Super Bowl MVP for the second time for completing 13 of 24 passes for 202 yard and one touchdown.

Hello & Regarding Super Bowl II Green Bay Packers VS Oakland Raiders...LOL Just kids from the neighborhood. We lived South of the OB on SW 3rd Street between 21st & 22nd Ave. We pestered a gate attendant until he let us slide in and under with about 10 minutes to go in the fourth. We were on the South side sitting on the concrete steps in between the seats. City of Miami Police chased us around a bit but without really trying to evict us. Green Bay fans kept saying to the PD: "leave those kids alone." We were so "outa place" and ragged looking with tattered clothes and very worn sneakers. I'll never forget the kindness of so many wonderful strangers; their actions allowed us -(a couple of 11 year old kids)- to see an event that we otherwise would not
have.
Sincerely...Richard A. Marvez

Yeah, we were from Noflo which means north of Flagler St. Nobody paid your way in unless your Dad was from Soflo , which means (you guessed it) south of Flagler. Nicky Westcott and I were from Morningside elementary and Edison. We adapted "the school of mullet technique" (safety in numbers). A tall sweet energetic guy from Liberty City vaulted us above the Boxoffice roof and into Super Bowl history. I looked back over my shoulder and saw the cops spearing the gathering storm of chaotic street kids like blue barracuda. Helicopters hadn't been invented yet, so our Moms had no Idea where we were. We scaled the Orange Bowl edifice and stepped out of our childhood.

My Dad took me to this game, I was about to turn 10 years old. Green Bay was my favorite team and I loved Vince Lombardi, one of the greatest football coaches of all time!

I saw Super Bowl lll in 1969 with the Baltimore Colts & the New York Jets. $12 for 40 yard line seats. Also saw Super Bowl V. The Colts vs. the Dallas Cowboys in 1971. The same 40 yard line seats were &15. Anyone remember the Baby 'Canes vs. the Baby Gators at the OB in the mid 60s? Went to 50+ Dolphin games during that time too.
