Thanks to Harold for correcting the date on this and for posting his comments about times changing and gas stations no longer leaving their cans of oil out for people to steal in the 1970's.

I used to walk by that very gas station on the way to Mae Walters Elementary school during the early 70's.

Great archive of photos .

Harold, thank you for pointing out the date discrepancy. I've changed it to "mid-1960's" because that was the price of gas then as I remember it and not 1974. Thank you also for your memories and comments.

hi! i worked at this Direct in 1975 and 1976 the other picture of this Direct station the date says 1974 that ones correct but this pictures date is not correct this looks like 1964 ten years earlier compare pictures #1 the cars are older models in this picture #2the direct sign is not the same and the gas price in this picture is 28 cents where in the other picture its 47 cents and in this picture theres and island between the to pump islands where it looks like they kept there oil inthe other picture that was not there when i worked there, in 1974 if you had your oil cans out there when you turned your back went in side to get cigarettes for some one they would steal the oil shows how much the times changed there was a time i remember when i was a boy in miami at the gas stations when they use to have price wars remember all over Dade they to give away glass ware all kind of stuff and have it out between the pumps wih the oil you could no longer do that in 1974 they would steal it people stole so much stuff from us. thanks for the memories!

I'm sorry Douglas but if it is in the Florida Archives, which is where I found it, it is a public document and anyone can use it.

And if the photo is used non-commercially, like on this site, it can be used under the public domain rules whether it is a public document or not.
