I presume that the infamous and beloved Pecker's Point makeout parking spot is visible in this image as mentioned by comments in other photos and galleries?

I remember Billies because i lived next door in the Tudor House. The owner Gene and his German Shepard Billie used to take me out bone fishing in the "flats" in Biscayne bar near the 36th st causway on the beach side.
I even remember one of the chefs, Armando. And that's the "Billies" story. I was 12 years old and befriended one of the waitresses sons as well. As clear as day. 1960

we used to park with our dates in the fifties after the movies near here and there was a vetnerian's office just west on 79th St.

What an amazing picture. Probably taken from the blimp. Mike Gordons was on the north side of the causeway and what you see here is his bait shack and the pier where boats could tie up to buy bait for fishing the bay. On the south side of the causeway Billys was torn down in the mid 60s and an upscale dockside restaurant called Sip & Sup was built there. It was run by a real nice Jewish couple. I worked there in 65 and 66 during the summers between college terms.
The island visible in the lower left corner of the picture is Belle Meade Island...very upscale homes. I remember I had a crush on Susie Peters who lived there.
In the early 1960s my brother and I would launch our little 8 foot pram from the beach on Pecker's Point.

Don, my father told me once that Mike Gordon used to sell bait before he opened the restaurant. That could be what the small building and dock is just above the bridge on the mainland. My dad's sister Mary and her husband Jim Barrett owned Mary's Market on NW 79 Street around NW 12th Ave during this time, and they were good friends of Mike Gordon. In the late 50's and early 60's they would take me to Mikes for dinner often, and he would always come to the table and sit and chat with them.

That's where Mike Gordon's was but I don't know if it was Mike Gordon's then, plus the building is considerably smaller than the restaurant most of us remember. Good question and I hope someone with knowledge will answer up.

The docks on the right as you enter the mainland... Was that Mike Gordon's restaurant? When was that built?

Actually only a part of the small island known as Pecker's Point is visible at the right of the picture. As the causeway enters the mainland to the left, the first property is Billy's Drive-In Restaurant, a favorite of the Miami Edison crowd.
