My brothers and I lived right down the street on Malaga. Ate there for years. My favorite was the dbl meat dbl cheese steak sandwich with the sauce. OMG! Delicious.

Anita, Juan and June: thank you for posting your fond personal memories of George's here for others to read and think about. My friend George W. Young, who supplied the article and the menu for display on this site, loved this sub shop and he knows that it was a good part of Miami's history. Your comments only reinforce George's opinion that we lost a great place when the sub shop closed forever. I'm sorry that I never patronized George's due to living in another part of town.

We used to eat at the first George's back in the early 60's. My boyfriend and I would order and then take the subs to the Coral Way or Tropicaire drive-in. The entire car smelled heavenly. One of my favorites was George's tuna fish sub! Yeah, I know! Who in there right mind would order a tuna sub? But no one made it better than George's, with delicious tuna, onions, lettuce, tomato and provolone cheese. Of course, the dressing was a must. I have never eaten subs as delicious, and a half century later I still yearn for the taste of one!!!

I was only able to enjoy their food the last two years of their existenceand made it in for a lunch a month before it closed. The food was unique at least for Miami it was,yep those hot peppers and jumbo Onion rings were a treat. The food had a lot of flavor without assaulting your digestive system ,their Chili was very good also and of course their Subs were satisfying.Very reasonable price for just about everything and dont forget how spacious and comfortable the place was and for us Miamians the most important Cool yet not Cold Air Conditioning. You could have your space, spread your legs out and escape the stifling heat and humidity in this very comfortable place. It was the kind of place a wealthy man should have owned and kept open just for the sake having it and saving it.

Those were the days in the 70's & 80"s. I am a native Floridian and the first time I discovered this Sub Shop I was sold. The 9a was the best and the green hot peppers they served were delicious. We lost a landmark. I remember as if it was just yesterday and the time is still going. I hope one day they will open another one like it, but of course it's hard to duplicate a restaurant so unique. Don, I thank you for posting the article and for allowing us to reminiscence days gone by. They were the most delicious subs I have ever tasted not to mention a very homey atmosphere.
