We drove south today on I25, passing through Albuquerque on the road to Las Cruces in Southern Arizona. We had rain north of the city, but it stopped as soon as we'd cleared the urban area. The country we passed through was even more wild than that in the north on I40. The Spanish named the route El Camino Real, and the southern part of it the 'Journada del Muerto', 'the death zone' for the lack of water on the road. We also saw our first Border Patrol checkpoint. |
