A trip to the south west

A trip to Arizona and New Mexico, beginning 30 Sept. We covered 2016 miles, driving in a roughly square pattern, Phoenix, Flagstaff, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Tucson and back to Phoenix

Thanks to Pam and Juanita for advice on where to go and what to see.

As well as seeing the Grand Canyon, which is indescribable for its beauty, the landscapes proved stunning everywhere. Sedona, I40 into New Mexico and the country around Taos near Red River and Bobcat Pass were outstanding. I was a little disappointed in Taos and Taos Pueblo. Maybe I didn't know the right questions to ask. Phoenix is like any other large city, Scottsdale has some older pretty areas. Santa Fe was a delight, we could have stayed there longer. Thunderstorm and flooding warnings made us miss Shiprock and Highway 666, which I had wanted to see and drive, but maybe next time.

Tombstone was well worth the visit. We had a great time in the saloon there, and the 'Gunfight at the OK Corral' was better than I had expected it to be. The following up visit to Boothill, and the number of people who died by violence instead of old age buried there was a total surprise.

Also the PIMA aircraft museum was well worth the day we spent there, and the 2 days at the Fairmont Scottsdale were a great conclusion to the trip.

It was a trip I would strongly recommend to anyone to take.
