This was shot from the side of the track,with the runner about 25 feet from my camera position. The 400/3.5 focuses on moving targets with a degree of aplomb that puts today's 300/2.8 AFS-II and 200/2 VR to SHAME when all three lenses are used in manual focus mode. The 400/3.5 has an adjustable focusing tension system,and a user-settable,pre-set distance detent which can be useful in certain situations. I used a monopod for this shot,as I almost always do with the 400/3.5.
