Konya

We arrived in Konya in the late afternoon. That day happened to be an important Turkish holiday, and all the shops were closed. At dinner, Steve (from Denver) mentioned that he had just come back from a local park where there was a huge fountain with beautiful lights, and kindly volunteered to take us there. 15 of us went. The lights in the main fountain were turned off, but we got to see the other attactions of the park instead.

The next day, before leaving Konya, there was an optional tour to Mevlana Mausoleum, also known as the Green Mausoleum or Green Dome. It's the original lodge of the Mevlevi Whirling Dervishes, a mystical Sufi Muslim group. It contains the tomb and shrine of the poet and philosopher Mevlana Rumi, who was constantly seeking unity with God in his own way to better serve his fellow human beings.

It is an important place of pilgrimage (indoor photography not allowed).
