Flew a lot out of there in 1968 with 1st/16th. Air mobile ops into LZ's on hueys.....lots
of base camps to sweep. They would run away ahead of us and we always got called to halt
and back up. Lots of night ambushes set up and we killed a lot of the bastards......they
paid for the loss of our kia's.

Seems like it was summer of 67 when my unit 1/18th left the Lai Khe Chopper Pad pictured above to relieve the ambushed 1/16th who suffered many KIA and wounded. The enemy withdrew and we dug in and stayed around a few days. My squad quietly located the bastard's base camp on the third day while running an extra long security patrol. Our Battalion Commander, Richard Cavazos, called in Australian bombers on the enemy base camp that night and wiped them out. Wayne Wade wade@iam777.org

I was in headquarters at Lai Khe the whole year of 67. I remember that spot very well. I was back there 3 years ago and hardly recognized the place. Ben Cat has a major 6 lane highway through it.

Actually drove thru the area a couple times yesterday heading to visit friends in Loc Ninh. Kinda strange driving thru Lai Khe at 60 miles an hour on a 6 lane highway!

I was in Company C, 2/28 at Lai Khe quite a bit after this photo was taken. I sure do remember this spot very well. Took off to a few hot areas from there Sep 68 - Dec 68.
