Woody was a young squad leader with Alpha company, 2/28th. He fought bravely during the Battle of Ong Thanh as well as many other days and places. He was also the battalion's intramural boxing champ (inside joke). Since leaving active military service Woody continued to serve our country as a civilian employee in Army counter-intelligence.
Woody is an outstanding guy. He is a proud husband and father. He is fiercely patriotic and is as courageous today as he was back then. I consider myself very lucky and am proud to be able to count him among my friends.
In this photo, which unfortunately has not aged as well as the subject, Woody is sitting on the sandbags outside of one of the Alpha Co. barracks in Lai Khe.
