Beachport, South Australia

Rule: horizons should be off center to create more interest and pleasing image.

By putting the horizon centrally here there is an echoing of land and sky giving tension to the image.

Both the treachery of the ocean and cliffs and the power of the sky have equal significance in the image.

We know that the rocks are "heavy" and by centering the horizon it gives the impression that the sky is also "heavy".

The eye is drawn to the center where the sky and land collide.

I sure like your dynamic range coverage. The scene is even greater once you notice the person standing near the horizon. John

I think I'd have to agree with you here. Cropping the sky makes the bottom far to heavy with the massive rocks. Cropping the rocks causes you to lose the wonderful heaviness and mass, and interesting shapes, taking all the weight out of the image. I agree that this crop is the most powerful and makes the best statement. Excellent! Qualified. ~ Lonnit
