Thanks Armin for relating your love for your Mum. I wonder what her father is showing her in this image? I like the diptych very much. Julie

This one is a worthy shot and loaded with good memories.

Well Ann I turned 40 a few days back. So exactly young - Debi
ctfchallenge03-Nov-2007 22:35
P.S. again - I hope my son has such sweet thoughts as these about me. (And Debi, I am almost five years older than your mom... yeeps!) Ann
ctfchallenge03-Nov-2007 22:34
P.S. I could do one like this and call it "Dad" for the same reasons. :) Ann
ctfchallenge03-Nov-2007 22:32
Very sweet remembrance of your mother. Makes my heart happy to see this one. As others have said I had a less simple relationship with my mother so I am very happy for you and yours. Ann

Armin: thanks for sharing your thoughts and such a beautiful picture. I have a complete personality clash with my mum. We are nearly opposite in nature. But she is still very precious to me and my brother. He calls her up once a week every week from Boston. I am not that dutiful but try to bring her over for a couple of months every year and take her for a holiday. She will be turning 60 next year and we are planning a big bash to celebrate. - Debi

Not really. When red lines are crossed then all bets are off.
Rod 03-Nov-2007 08:20
It seems you're having a superiority attack Aamm. Have you started signing your shots.
Sorry Armin:-)
aam1234 03-Nov-2007 05:49
That's true, Rod. People call these people...morons.
Rod 03-Nov-2007 03:13
Congratulations Aamm but some of us don't associate babies & baby boots as being Mums or Moms
Canon DSLR Challenge03-Nov-2007 00:13
This is a lovely duo, Armin. Beautiful. Thanks. ~Lydia
aam1234 03-Nov-2007 00:11
Edit: and the last was the title. It tied them all together.
aam1234 03-Nov-2007 00:09
How come it took me 3 seconds to get what Armin was trying to show here. One second for each photo, starting from the top.
Rod 02-Nov-2007 23:27
Wot about Armins Dad! He doesn't get a mention:-)
OK Armin mate just picy talk now. Like Debi I didn't get the connection in the two shots with the title but now with your explanation it works quite well.
aam1234 02-Nov-2007 22:30
That was beautiful, Armin. Thank you very much for sharing.

People, let's close the discussion here out of respect to Armin and his family. Any further questions should be taken up at the main thread.

Peace to all.

mcbit, so true, I remember e.g. when I started first class and she gave me the confidence, that I will survive that horrible day unharmed :o)
when I gave my fist performance with my cello and she helped me to overcome my shyness by simply giving me a smile,
when the first girl broke my heart and she was there to give me shelter,
when the first major thickness appeared and she was there to somehow cure it,
when the first...whatever...and she was there!
But I've learned in the meantime that it is now my part, to be there for those needing my support. And most of the time looking at this picuture (upper one) it is with a thankful smile for all she has given to me...as all moms do to their children; I truely miss her, but most of the time it is a warm feeling :o)

Armin, I choose to remember my mother's birthday and not the day she died it, for me, keeps the sadness to minimum and amplifies the positive feelings. To absent friends... -mcbit
ctfchallenge02-Nov-2007 20:50
Rod, mate, please, let us stop us here and talk about the pictures if at all...please! :o)
Armin
Rod 02-Nov-2007 20:39
Aamm could you explain what you meant by "That's the difference between us and you guys." I'm really hoping it's not what I think it meant.
aam1234 02-Nov-2007 20:30
To Debi, I think Armin said it best "The were worn in WW2 and they are always reminding me (by being displayed in my workroom) how much I miss my mom!"

While I don't know about the WWII history of Armin's mom, I knew the moment I saw the photo that he was referring to him mom. Not only that, but the combination of the photos not only suggests that his mom may not be too young, but also suggests that she may not be with us (God bless her).

Hope you will understand my reaction.
ctfchallenge02-Nov-2007 20:17
Thanks, Gerry! And, no, it isn't too sensitive to warrant questioning :o)
The memories include sadness, of course, but many positive feelings as well!
Armin
mcbit02-Nov-2007 20:09
If it is too sensitive to warrant questioning I wouldn't suggest posting it here. Anyway I think they're a wonderful pair and I hope they invoke positive memories! -mcbit
arminb02-Nov-2007 19:44
Thanks, yes, indeed, they survived. :o)
The were worn in WW2 and they are always reminding me (by being displayed in my workroom) how much I miss my mom!
Debi, please let us forget about everything and just talk about these two pictures if at all... is it a deal? :o)
Cheers, Armin

Something amazing has happened here: Rod is speechless! I did a double take myself seeing the shoes - something I've only viewed in old images and silent movies. To think of them surviving so long in someone's personal storage is mind blowing. Nice antique image of a real antique. -tv
ctfchallenge02-Nov-2007 18:58
I seemed to have missed all the discussions. To clarify I was not getting the connection to mom and the picture. I saw the lil girl but the shoes looked like men's shoes to me. What I still dont understand is whats meant by, and I quote "That's the difference between us and you guys." - Debi
aam1234 02-Nov-2007 17:01
Something must have been lost in the translation. No hard feelings, Debi.
janewigginsphotography02-Nov-2007 15:32
Neo - that's funny
Guest 02-Nov-2007 12:56
Lovely keepsakes and the sepia works so well.
But perhaps a bit too controversial for this site :-)
ArminB 02-Nov-2007 12:48
Thanks all :-)
@ Rod: shut up, mate :o)
Aam, thanks, but no harm done, I understood Debi's question in the way Techo described it :-)
Rod 02-Nov-2007 07:51
This is lovely. But why Mom ?:-)
ctfchallenge02-Nov-2007 02:57
I like the matching colors and theme in this shot. The title and grainy brown border give it an extra boost too. -J.V.
ctfchallenge02-Nov-2007 02:48
Because Aam, she is questioning the title... like why does it relate to mom? I would ask the same thing...but after looking for some time... it's all about the reminder ... We can all ask questions can't we? Isn't that what makes our understanding better and more clear? jano
aam1234 02-Nov-2007 01:13
Not too sure, Techo. Here is a quote:

"this is lovely. But why Mom ? Debi"
ctfchallenge02-Nov-2007 01:07
That is one amazing keepsake. Nicely presented image here, Armin. Both shots work very well together. I also like the vintage tone here. Lovely sentimental capture.

Aam, what I think Debi meant was why the reference to Mom in the title. After Armin explained it in his reply below, It's all crystal clear to whom these baby shoes belong to now in reference to the photo in the 1st frame.

-Techo
aam1234 01-Nov-2007 21:40
Mothers are a red line that shouldn't be crossed.
aam1234 01-Nov-2007 21:30
Some questions shouldn't be asked. One either get it or should keep silent.

Sorry for being so "direct".
aam1234 01-Nov-2007 21:26
What kind of a question was that, Debi.

That's the difference between us and you guys.
sue anne01-Nov-2007 20:53
Nice memories and with the background info, I understand more.
ctfchallenge01-Nov-2007 20:34
thanks :-)
today is the day of 'Omnium Sanctorum'...a day to remember;
it is mom on the picture, and the shoes are hers as well...
Armin
ctfchallenge01-Nov-2007 19:28
this is lovely. But why Mom ? Debi
aam1234 01-Nov-2007 14:09
Super sweet and very touching. You are a good man, Armn.
ctfchallenge01-Nov-2007 14:01
Very sweet, and you do manly colors with gusto :) I was just coming around to comment on your *rmin* shot, but it's gone! An OK shot, and an excellent placeholder for a heated signature debate. The only controversy we haven't yet covered in this challenge! :))
