Remember*

November 11 is Remembrance Day in Canada. Around this time of year, people pin red velvet covered plastic poppies on their lapels, to show that they remember the many who lost their lives during the wars and peace keeping operations. Trying to stay with the theme Close-up Photography, I took a close-up photo of one of these poppies, and used an old WWI photo of my grandfather in uniform as a background.

PS Work:
Levels, contrast, removed some dust from poppy & touch-up pin, and sharpen.

Background:
White cardboard, and an old black & white photo

Canon PowerShot S410
1/8s f/2.8 at 7.4mm full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

The shot looks really good mate. My opinions are easy to say but I would find them difficult to do:-)

EDIT: November 4 2004

Adjusted color so red is not as orange as last image.

Rod tried to desaturate the red, it won’t work very well, lots of the velvet fuzz turns white, I think its light reflecting off of the velvet fuzz. My good light bulb burnt out during the shoot, and I had to use a clear bulb and I don't have a diffuser on the lamp. : (

aam1234 thanks for the comments

It takes talent to think of photos like this one. Well done PhotoNUT.

Thank you for the comments guys / girl : )

Rod, I agree, the red is too much. I have noticed with my digital ELPH’s, all of them had problems with red, and when the flash was used, in some cases reds turned orange. Not sure if that’s an EPLH issue or Canon CCD issue. I will re-post a new photo later this week. Thanks for the feed back Rod.

This has a 3-d effect. Very nice. Dorys

Well thought out Nutcase a great idea. The only thing I would suggest is to desaturate the poppy to a lot less brilliant red, it's a little overpowering. Very good mate:-)
