February 3 2005:
Dead of Night

I went on another nocturnal stroll last night, and I wondered if my local churchyard could provide any spooky images. Well, not that spooky as it happens but I find the available light can sometimes create interesting colouring and effects.

This stone in St John’s churchyard commemorates Martha Steer (died 24 October 1894 aged 68), her son Thomas Steer (1 July 1866 to 28 December 1934) and his wife Henrietta Steer (7 February 1866 to 6 March 1947).

Have to agree with Gary, the fact that the words mist in focus are loving and husband really makes this pic. It would have been cool anyway but just has added feeling with those words.

Whenever I go into cemeteries like that, and find stones like this, with dates of lives and generations such as these, I just wonder about their lives, and what did they mean, and who did they touch, and who remembers them now. It's almost an overwhelming feeling. I find it fascinating that the word most in focus in your image is "loving." Perhaps, if these people did nothing else but live loving lives, their "purpose' was fulfilled.

Very nicely done, Ray

I like the selective focus on the words while getting the jist of the overall message.

Certainly right about the colours and effects - though I'm not sure that it would tempt me into the graveyard late at night.
