November 9 2003:
Peoples' Camera

Home

I've now got desparate for my POTD as I paid a visit to the attic today to pull out this dear friend. Although I first had a camera when I was about seven years old (a Kodak Brownie 127 my parents bought in a church bazaar), my entry into serious kit came when I was 18 with this Praktica LTL. Had it not been for my planned need of a zoom lens for my aviation photography, I would have doubtless bought a compact, but this East German SLR was available in the UK for just £45, a bargain even in those days!

Yes, I had forgotten about my Praktica. I bought mine second hand in the early 80s with a 28mm, 50mm and a zoom to I think 200mm.

Nice photo Ray. Happy days.

Hey, where's the LCD? I like the close crop and the off-kilter position, Ray.

My first 'serious' camera was very nearly a Praktica MTL3 with a 2.8 Tessar, but Dixons were offering a Chinon CS for a few £££ less! Ah, the joys of stop-down metering!
