West Byfleet was really created with the advent of the railway, its station opening in 1887. The shops here face the station and were built by Tarrants, a well known local builder. The more important shops were situated further along, including on the main road.
All my family used West Byfleet - my Dad caught the train here to get to work in London, my mother for regular shopping, my brother to get to school, and me, well I had my 'saturday job' here when I was 15.
