"I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" by Maya Angelou written in 1969.
This is Angelou's autobiography about her early years;
one of an 8-part series about her life.
Angelou says that the Title of this book comes from the
3rd stanza of Dunbar's poem:
I know why the caged bird sings, ah me,
When his wing is bruised and his bosom sore,
When he beats his bars and would be free;
It is not a carol of joy or glee,
But a prayer that he sends from his heart's deep core,
But a plea, that upward to Heaven he flings –
I know why the caged bird sings.
(The Bird picture was taken in the Spring and
the other two pictures were taken last night.)
