The Mezquita is Cordoba's great mosque, and dates back to the 12th century. The original
mosque was constructed between 785 and 787 and has evolved over the centuries. In the
16th century, a cathedral was built in the heart of the reconsecrated mosque, part of which
was destroyed. This is a view of the Patio de los Naranjos, an orangery, where the faithful
washed before prayer.
