I too started off thinking what an incredible sight the windmills were on the landscape, with the added touch of a vapour trail - but the plane above made me think of it more as a celebration of aviation with all the propellers below. I've read the other comments about energy conservation etc. and it's a very valid point and take on the image - but I prefer to think of this one more as a joy. The silhouette also reminds me of wings. v.

There is certainly a lot of irony in this picture. The plane looks majestic whilst the turbines are seen by many as a blot on the landscape. But you know us photographers take a different view of the latter!

Super design with the added touch of the vapor streak. V
Guest 21-Nov-2006 11:34
Superb - this reminds me a bit of your classic shot of all the oil derricks, but this is much more soothing in its effect. Voted

I love how they flow up and down over the hill
Stu21-Nov-2006 08:47
Fantastic - my initial reaction was the same as Lawrence mentioned below - the contrast of the wind farms below and the plane above from an environmental perspective really stands out for me. I really like the sense of scale especially when you take into account the fact those windmills, while doing some good for the environment overall, are dominating the landscape yet nowhere near offsetting the emissions of that little dot in the sky. Great one.
Eckhart Derschmidt21-Nov-2006 08:37
It is a matter of debate as to whether these windmills spoil the landscape or not. But aside from this aesthetic discussion, they certainly are a powerful symbol for a change of paradigm in energy production (the plane, on the other hand is pure old-school). And as such, I see them very positive.
Love the almost perfect symmetry! GMV

splendid, really!

Great composition. Vote.
Guest 21-Nov-2006 07:07
very nice composition, craig. and that sky writing is such a great punctuation mark. just the right amount of it to make the difference without going over the top.
AL21-Nov-2006 06:34
My first thought was gone with the wind! Perhaps it's the flow or curve of the hill, the windmills or the plane. Whatever it's, beautifully composed and timed. A truly great frozen moment that one could stand and look up and down, left and right, in awe. Voted.
Guest 21-Nov-2006 05:55
Very cool shot and strangely beautiful. Funny that my initial reaction is that the landscape looks polluted (visually), yet in reality this is the exact opposite of what it is. The plane above does make me wonder if this was included for purely aesthetic effects, or whether this is a statement about energy use and conservation
Guest 21-Nov-2006 05:26
Very elegant, perfectly composed and timed with this plane in the sky. Superb treatment. Vote.

So pure. That plane line in the sky adds such a special touch.
Jill21-Nov-2006 01:58
The music of windmills conducting a symphony upon the hill. Wonderful image.
jude21-Nov-2006 01:51
I love these windmill - great view of them moving up and down the curves of the landscape.
We've just gotten some nearby (in canada...lol) and I've got to get out to a place about 50 miles away that shows them nicely.
Maybe next spring ;)
