Our first winter storm of 2002 was a good one. We had 3'' of snow and some freezing rain on December 5, 2002. Although it was gone in a day or so, it left over 1,250,000 houses without power in North Carolina.
Closer to home, it made everything sparkle with a 1/4'' coat of ice. Unfortunately, that ice broke a Pinus thunbergiana 'Aocha Matsu' (variegated Japanese black pine) we had grown since 1989 that was about 15' tall, and is now 3' tall with two branches.
