Off for a bit of a drive this afternoon and ended up in Shaftesbury, which was nice - this is Gold Hill, made famous by Hovis' 1973 advert for their bread.
This is one of the most photographed streets in England - all chocolate box and cottage garden-looking, but at six o'clock on a Saturday evening it was deserted. I was lucky - the sun came out just as I got there, and makes for some deep shadows on the thatched rooves. At the bottom of the street and stretching far into the distance is the Blackmore Vale, scene of many of Thomas Hardy's novels, and some of the richest pasture & grazing land in England
