If you look closely in the middle of the image, you can see a line of holes going up to the top of the cliff. The Anasazi cut these in the stone hundreds of years ago in order to climb up to escape enemies.
Our guide related that the Navajos also used these same carved out holes to escape being captured by Col. Kit Carson and being made to take "The Long Walk" in 1864.
