Monument Valley is located on the border of Arizona and Utah and was once home to the Anasazi. It's a magnificent 30,000 acre Navajo Tribal Park within the Navajo reservation.
Canyon de Chelly National Monument is located about 96 miles from Monument Valley. Numerous ruins, pictographs and petroglyphs left by the Anasazi and Navajo Nation are evident throughout the park.
Arizona Historical Society's Spring 2004 issue has an excellent article called "The Eagle and the Anasazi: The Lindberghs' 1929 Aerial Survey of Prehistoric Sites in Arizona and New Mexico." It tells how Anne flew their biplane over Canyon de Chelly as Charles leaned out of the cockpit and snapped the very first aerial photographs of the area.
