 vaseyi...

Rhododendron vaseyi is found in the wild in a small number of counties in northwest North Carolina and one county in northeast Georgia, in open woods at elevations ranging from 3000' to 6000', in USDA zones 5a to 9a. As shown by some of these pictures, it is being grown successfully over a much wider geographic range. Named in 1878, it normally blooms pale pink, with variations ranging from pure white to dark purplish pink, before the leaves expand. The plant habit is upright and open, to 12'.
