Ishak Pasha Sarayi photos

Photos from this palace, also spelled Isak Pasa and Ishak Pasa.

We were on our way from the city of Van to Mt. Ararat and Dogubayazit, which is
about 20 miles from Iran.  We certainly encountered many military checkpoints.

The palace was built by Ottoman overlord Ishak Pasha in 1789 to help in his control
over the Silk Road and has 360 rooms, most of which we didn't see. But what we did see
was extremely beautiful.  I'm glad I had not read what Pasha is said to have done
to the Architect so that he wouldn't be able to build someone else as impressive a palace!
At various times it was occupied by Turkish and then Russian troops to bad effect on the place.

Here's an excellent overview photo of the palace shot by Jonathan Wilson
and a very beautiful photo from an unusual perspective taken by Szymon Kochanski.

Also in the palace are ceremony and entertainment halls, tombs even, and of course a recreation hall for men only :-)

This was across from the palace and
