Burn Area on Sunrise Highway

The area on the left of the road burned last week in the 7,100 acre (28.7km2) "Chariot Fire".
120 structures were destroyed, mostly Cabins at a Camp. At the height of the fire there were 2,100 Fire Personnel battling the flames.
Most brush fires are started by humans either accidentally or on purpose. This fire also had human origins.
The cause is under investigation.

The area on the right of the road was charred in the the Cedar Fire which burned 280,278 acres (1,134.2 km2) 2,820 buildings (including 2,232 homes)
and killed 15 people including one firefighter before being contained on November 3, 2003, making it the largest fire in recorded California history.

Tragic consequences -- not just for the property owners!
The fatality figure is dreadful. Your image helps drive the sobering point home..

The land will renew itself after the fires. Thankfully no one was killed in this fire.

Fires are so devastating - oops, I see Jim wrote that.
The heartbreak and fear and damage from fires is so bad. Just terrible

..not all fires start because of humans, the one where 19 firefigthers died was caused by lighting! Nevertheless its frightening and I rememeber the danger from Laguna Niguel, where I lived and saw fires burning in the area! This is a good shot of the beauty of the land regardless! v.

This is such a beautiful composition and such a devastating reality. So many fires have
human origin, either downright malice or neglect. It truly amazes me that our government
has to tell people when to put their cigs out in their ashtrays! ~

Such a beautiful landscape... but too dry. It never rains in southern California (as the song goes) Your photo is terrific today. I love the bright blue sky and whispy clouds. V

Fires like this are devastating .... but sometimes it is miraculous to see how regrowth later appears. Great info and image!

Excellent leading of the eye Walter! V
So sad to read about the 2 fires here. :(

Life will renew itself with time ... here, the forest fires are often started by lightning.

Problematic fire in the landscape: a feature shared between California and much of Australia. Fires of the extent of your Cedar Fire are commonplace here but only make it into the news when they're of high intensity and in populated areas - mainly in temperate southern Australia where I gather the climate matches that of California quite closely. Interesting documentation.

Excellent composition to document the aftermath of the event. Great info. v

I heard about this fire and saw some photos, but this perspective is remarkable. It is so sad that such a fire was human caused. V
