1965 - Coast Guard Sikorsky HH-52A Seaguard #CG-1383 rescuing a surfer at South Beach after Hurricane Betsy hit South Florida

My buddy Bob Zimmerman and I were body surfing at South Beach this day and we saw this rescue take place. The large waves and riptides were pushing everyone toward the rock jetty at the end of South Beach and the Coast Guard HH-52A flight crew from USCG Air Station Miami at Opa-locka Airport plucked a few out of the ocean to keep them from being smashed onto the jetty. That was impressive to me and one of the reasons I decided to join the Coast Guard the following summer.
