U. S. Coast Guard Stock and Non-Stock Photos Gallery

The U. S. Coast Guard is my favorite branch of our nation's military since I served 4 years active duty in the Coast Guard from 6/6/66 to 7/2/70 (TRACEN Cape May, CG Group Office Baltimore, CG Station Lake Worth Inlet and CG Recruiting Office Tampa) and 30 years in the Coast Guard Reserve (ORTUAG 07-83479, CGRU Miami IV, CGRU Air Station Miami-1978 to 1994, CGRU Seventh Coast Guard District Office, and Integrated Support Command Miami). I went into category RET II in April 2000 and into RET I in July 2007 with a total of 41 years 1 month 4 days for pay, all without any break in service. In addition, my father, John M. C. Boyd, also served in the Coast Guard from 1942 to 1945 during World War II on a troop transport in the Pacific and as a BM1 recruit training instructor at Manhattan Beach, NY.

John, thank you for writing about living in Port Everglades during WW2. I've never heard of the Coast Guard house boat up there during that time period and I've never seen a photo of it. In the late 1960's the Coast Guard had a houseboat moored at a private marina on the west side of A1A right at the curve where 17th Street eastbound meets the beach. I visited that houseboat a couple of times while I was in the USCG and I have a photo or two of it which I need to add to this site. In the mid-1970's the USCG built a new station on the east edge of Port Everglades inside the new John U. Lloyd State Park and I worked there for a few months while in the USCG Reserve in 1978. I would sure love to know more about you living inside the port and having access to the military bases up there. Can you write out your memories and send them to me at OldMiamiMemories@gmail.com ? I as a 11 yr old boy i lived in port everglades during WW2 i remember the coast guard house boat the CGB14 that housed about 30 members, we never hear of it. my dad was supt. for forest products that owned 6 acres inside the port and our home, from 1939 to 1969. i sold the fort lauderdale news to military personal everyday, i had free run of the bases, have some good memories . any info on the houseboat will be appreciated. p

David, thank you for posting your comments. I really enjoyed my 16 years in the Air Station Reserve Unit and it went by in a blur. I still shop at the AirSta exchange at least once a week - that's 42 years of shopping there, going back to when it was $2 for a carton of cigs and $2 or $3 for a case of beer depending on what was on sale. I was born in Miami in 1963, and had the honor to serve at Miami Air Station from 1990 to 1995. I was surrounded by some terrific and dedicated people of the United States Coast Guard. Hi Steve, the only places I can think of are the Coast Guard Historian's office in Washington, DC and the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola. Other possibilities are the 7th District's PIO office in Miami and the 13th District in Seattle - perhaps they have maintained some archived photos over the years. Weren't you an aircrew member at CGAS Miami in the 70's? Your name is familiar for some reason. Don

These are some of the best photos since I retired after 20 years of service in 1994. You have a very rare photo of a convair with a falcon jet. Not many convair photos around and it seems that history aludes the fact the the USCG had them for a while. I served 4 years as an Instructor in E-City at ASM "A" School before to Savannah, Ga to implement the swimmer program. The only regret I have is that I retired too soon. Gary M. I have gotten to know Joe "Butch" Flythe over the email. He was one of the instructors in "The Guardian" with Kevin Costner. Great movie. I reccomend every Coastie buying the CD and not renting it. Don...on second thought Papa 63 was BM1 Klagholtz. I actually couldn't remember when I posted the first note. I know you will remember the black CC BM1 Turner. That guy was a trip. One of my friends from Jacksonville came in 2 weeks behind me a was selected for the Horor Guard. His name was Chuck Anderson. I found Fred's Place and have located a Cheif SK that was at Groton when I was there. Cheif Don Hanley. Have you seen "The Guardian"? Great movie. I'd like to order the ptredactyl print. Don....Enjoyed the site. I was at Cape May when you were there. BM1 Meadows was my CC. My dates..5/6/66 - 3/17/70. (Hotel 63) From boot camp, went to Groton to SK School. Duty stations: CGAS Barbers Point; CGAS Agana, Guam; CGAS Miami. My buddy, Roger Birong (Papa 63 - BM1 Klingenhoff) has your date of service. I finally have a white Ford SUV with a Coast Guard Fla license plate...a Coast Guard front bumper plate, and had a logal magnetic sign made for the side of the car. Interested in some patches, photos of C130, C123, & HH52's, and AC wings. Also, how do former Coasties keep in touch with one another. Is there a link where you can find some budeies? As part of my HO railroad "empire" I am modeling a seaport circa 1949 that will feature several fishing boats and maritime services etc. I do want to include as part of this a USCG Cutter and to research this I have serached Google and found your site. Although this shows pix of a modern CG it has been extremely helpfull and will enable me to create what I hope will be the correct feel on my layout. I live in New Zealand and so grabbing a camera and driving around Tampa or the Gulkcoast of Florida is not an immediate possibility so your site has been a big help to me. Cheers and best wishes.
