We had lunch at this special restaurant called Dapur Babah. The term, "Babah" for males and "Nyonya" for females, are widely used in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore and it applies to ethnic Chinese that adopted the culture of indigenous local folks. Not only they tried to adopt or copy the way the locals cocked but also to the way the locals dressed. Tried as they may have, their cuisine nor their look is neither Chinese nor Indonesian but became a separate "babah or nyonya" characteristic, almost like a third, similar but still distinctive group.
