After looking at this mechanism, I decided to try and use both, the factory stock location https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/90674077 for the front-trunk 'release handle' and the factory 'release handle' https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/90631017 itself to actuate the mechanical headlights. The installation would still retain that "Porsche look-and-feel" (becuase we're still using the very same Porsche parts!) and I believe it would be the natural thing to do.
