Oil Lines - Engine Compartment
If you want to learn more about how the 914-6 GT lubrication system is connected, these photos will guide you
https://pbase.com/9146gt/gt_oil_lines_install_samples
Paying close attention
to the photos, you should be able to identify each of the factory oil lines
https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/22320662
and connections among all the components.
I'll start by identifying the location of each of the oil lines found in the engine bay of a 914-6 GT
with the shortest

of the group, see here
https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/22288803
- Note in this installation how the oil line is kinked,

obviously somethine you want to avoid if possible. It is highly recommended to first do a mock-up installation of all of the system components prior to welding in place the oil thermostat mounting bracket

to the left firewall in the engine bay. This is critical, very important to achieve a good fit. Next, can you spot the short steel oil line in this photo?
https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/22320664
- Now, look more closely at the lower right corner of this picture
https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/22288802,
hidden just under the front engine sheet metal, this oil line is difficult to see and usually its presence is missed by most. This oil line
https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/22320659
connects to the 3rd threaded port of this oil line
https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/22320663
- In this photo
https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/89779411
the oil line was connected to an oil port located on the face of the oil console. This oil line is then snaked through a hole in the engine bay sheet metal, then to a long brass oil line (the oil return line coming from the front mounted oil cooler). Can you also spot this other oil line
https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/22320663
in this photo?
https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/22288807
No look closely here
https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/22288804
This particular oil line
https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/22320660
is located towards the bottom of the external oil tank and connects at one end to the engine oil cooler, see here
https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/128387754
note the incorporated mounting bracket, used to secure the oil line to a stud in the engine. The longest oil line

of this group is much easier to ID and it is found here

In the future, using sample installation photos of my GT conversion project, I plan to continue to add more useful and relevant content. In the meantime, I hope you find these photographic details helpful in your very own 914-6 GT project.
